Keep Christianity Weird by Michael Frost Review

I received a complimentary copy.

“Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould” (Romans 12:2, Phillips). Once we’ve committed ourselves to following Jesus, the pressure to fit in can become enormous. But as Mike Frost shows us in Keep Christianity Weird, the hallmark of our faith is being different. Jesus was never mainstream. Read this book and be equipped to resist the allure of acceptability, and be equipped to surprise the world with the good news it didn’t even know it was waiting for.

Christianity is, as always, at a crossroads: How do we navigate the ever-changing culture we find ourselves in and continue to win people to Christ without sacrificing our distinct character as the people of God? Michael Frost draws from the city movements—from “Keep Austin Weird” to “Keep Colorado Springs Lame”—to propose how we can lean in to the uniqueness of the Christian story in ways that are surprising and winsome to those outside the faith.

Cassandra's Review Q&A-

- What did you like about the book and why? There is a lot of good connected trains of thought provided and the examples are easy to understand.

- What did you not like about the book and why?  The book is little boring and I found it was easier to put down and try to come back to later rather than wanting to keep reading.  It was just hard to stay focused.

- What did you learn?  The author is open in his faith and wants others to feel the same way.  It is purely faith based but mixed into great modern day examples.

- To whom would you recommend this book and why?  Think out of the box type of christians that are not set in old times or unwilling to compromise beliefs.

Cassandra's Review - The directions are a little different from other books in that the illustrations are more blanked out as you fo instead of drawn out lines etc.  The paintings are not an exact match for the people, but they are fun to view and you could even try to draw them out and use other mediums for more creating time.
