With full-color photos throughout and a ring binding that allows the book to lay flat on your kitchen counter, this is the everyday cookbook you will return to again and again.

Cassandra's Review- Perfect for a slow cooker, I do wish these were also labeled to that you know which are for the slow cooker and which are for other ways of cooking, because it is a bit confusing. I also think the idea to have this in a binder instead of binded, was a bit of a miss because it is so big, the pages will easily get damaged or rip right out.

 A Dog for Christmas

One Christmas morning, while young Amish twins Henry and Harvey are sledding, they find a big black dog wandering in a field. They adopt the Newfoundland and name him Lucky, and he soon becomes their best friend and playmate. When tragedy strikes and Harvey drowns in a spring creek, Henry’s only source of comfort is his furry companion.

To make matters worse, the Depression is especially hard on Henry’s parents who have more children than they can care for. He is sent to live with another family, where he becomes enchanted with Katie Stoltzfus. Eventually, Lucky passes away, leaving a hole in Henry’s heart, and he wonders if he will ever find another friend as faithful and loving. As Henry grows up, he has other dogs, but none are as special as the Newfoundland he and his brother once cherished. When Katie marries another man, it seems Henry will never be happy again. Every passing Christmas reminds him of the people and animal friends now missing from his life. Though, no holiday story is complete without a miracle.

In A Dog for Christmas, bestselling author Linda Byler delivers a beautiful Christmas story of quiet triumph in the face of lifelong adversity. After years of loneliness and longing, Henry is finally rewarded with a hard-won love, a family to call his own, and a new best friend. Could there possibly be a better gift than that?

Cassandra's Review- This is what I would consider a box of tissues book because it is filled with love, grief and heart which require the need for some crying in between.

 Homer for the Holidays

The Further Adventures of Wilson the Pug
By Nancy Levine, By Wilson the Pug

Wilson the Pug has taught his many admirers—canine and otherwise—some important life lessons. And he practices what he preaches. One crisp winter day while out searching for a good deed to do for the holidays, Wilson comes across a baby pug, lost and alone. Determined to do “the right thing,” as it is written in the Tao-te Ching, Wilson sets out to help his new buddy Homer, and together they embark on a quest to find the puppy a home.

Their adventure takes them along comical and surprising paths, where they encounter many new friends as well as some unsavory characters who cause big trouble for the duo. Things start to look bleak for Homer until Santa Claus himself steps in to lend a hand. Homer just might get his wish after all . . . Captured in the same style of charming photography and endearing humor that so enchanted fans of The Tao of Pug, and Letters to a Young Pug, Homer for the Holidays is a heartwarming pug buddy story destined to become a holiday favorite of dog lovers of all ages for years to come.

Cassandra's Review- An adventure that any dog lover would enjoy, especially if you are fond of pugs.  It is well written and easy to get into.

Christmas is a magical time of the year. How often have you lain in bed, visions of sugar plums dancing through your head? Maybe you’ve began to gently drift into a dream when, suddenly, you realize . . . you didn’t move the elf!

That darn elf. Making you get out of bed when you’re all snuggled up after a long day of gift-wrapping. Before you know it, they’ll think Santa isn’t real and they’ll be all grown up. Fine, you say to yourself, I’ll get up and move the freakin’ elf. However, as time goes on, your kids start to notice the elf’s moving to the same spots over and over, doing the same old things. It starts to become less believable.

For when you’re stuck in this predicament, author Jason Deas has developed 101 different ideas of what to do with your Christmas elf. Get St. Nick’s assistants off the shelf and into a variety of creative situations that will amaze and amuse your children:

Have your elf become a mechanic and fix a toy car
