Cassandra's  Review- I wish I would have received the actual wristband that these could easily be worn on my wrist or for my child, so that it was easier to try out. They can clip onto socks etc, with the provided clips.   It feels like vibration and can change in speeds.  I actually have children with special needs and one in particular whom I thought this would be great for.

I tried this and the result was that the vibrating which is similar to a phone on your pocket on vibrate, but on each side of your body kept my teen focused on the sensation and not on anything else, so the whole 30 seconds was me being told that it vibrates and makes noise and it feels weird. So did it actually calm or give focus or help with sleep?

For my family it did not and at first it was incredibly hard to get it to even sync up.  I guess every person is different so I would have to say based on your need or your child's needs, this may or may not actually work.  If you have a child that will focus only on the device and nothing else is that better than them actually doing what they need to?  If they are so busy worrying about the sound and movement of the vibration will it help them to relax?  This is all going to have to be decided by the individual.

I also tried this and could feel the vibrating even in my teeth which caused kind of a numbness.  I was not as bothered by the sensations or non ease of clipping them or keeping them secure, but I also was kind of more focused on the vibrations to really feel improvement.  Maybe that is what it is supposed to do.

Cassandra's Review-  If you can sleep with a more of a strapped in feel with the added snug hold on your body, this may help you to lift, but I am not sure how well it will work on super low hanging or already super drooped figures.

It will definitely keep everything in its place and like I said very still. It may take some time to get used to at night, but It doesn't look bad under a shirt for daytime wear if for some reason you need to go out.   I enjoy the color and style as well as the NO underwire!

The Art of the Moulin Rouge
Welcome to the rich and storied world of the Moulin Rouge. Experience its art like never before with The Art of the Moulin Rouge.

Through the ages, artists of all kinds have been attracted to the vibrancy and vivacity of the Moulin Rouge. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec found inspiration in the Cancan and the impertinence of La Belle Epoque or “The Beautiful Era” that was late 19th-Century Paris. During the 1920s, Mistinguett, the “Queen of the Dance Hall” played muse to the young sketcher Gesmar.

Since then, artists have continued to produce hundreds of paintings, prints, posters, and drawings that capture life as a performer in one of the most iconic venues in the world. Fans of Toulouse-Lautrec and the Moulin Rouge will enjoy The Art of the Moulin Rouge.

Filled with coloring pages, dot-to-dot puzzles, and color-by-number templates based on the theatre’s most famous posters and program art, coloring enthusiasts will enjoy adding their own unique spin to these legendary and symbolic works of post-impressionism.

Following a brief introduction to color theory and ideas for working in different color mediums, present-day artists will embark on a creative journey through time to celebrate the lush lifestyles that epitomize Parisian culture as seen through the portals of the storied Moulin Rouge. Thirty full-color Moulin Rouge postcards are also included in this beautiful book.

Cassandra's Review- So beautiful you do not want to rip out the pages, for the postcards or really even write in it, however it is fun for any age to enjoy.  Each page is printed on a good thick paper and the postcards can even be mailed out.

4 Effective Tips to Help Parents Keep Their Cool During Meltdowns

4 Effective Tips to Keep Your Cool During Meltdowns and Defiance
By Faith Collins

Connecting in a warm, loving way to your children when they act out takes tremendous patience. But research shows that parents who have high levels of warmth and connection along with high expectations are the most likely to end up with happy, well-adjusted children.

Unfortunately, this can be easier said than done. In dealing with real children, in real life, it often seems like we have to choose: Do we maintain our connection, or do we enforce that boundary? If you’re a parent who is committed to respectful parenting, how do you maintain those boundaries when your toddlers and preschool-aged children push back?

Maintaining high levels of warmth while setting expectations and following through is critical because it supports children in learning that all-important skill of self-regulation.Children with higher levels of self-regulation at age four are more likely to do better decades later in their careers, relationships and personal lives.

Apply these four tips to respond to meltdowns and defiance without losing your own cool.

1. Set boundaries earlier. Permissive parents are often uncomfortable setting firm expectations and doing what’s needed to help their child follow through. But such follow through is exactly what their relationship needs, and is often what children are asking for with their extreme behavior. Children need you to be the loving authority, where you guide, correct and help them with warmth and compassion. When you wait until you’re at the end of your rope to finally lay down the law, chances are that you’ll do it in a way that’s punitive and disconnecting.

Children are just learning to manage emotions like disappointment and anger; you can only support them in this process when you aren’t flooded yourself. Set that firm boundary as soon as you start to feel annoyed, and then you can respond with compassion when your child gets upset. Allow the feelings, be empathetic and then help your child learn to move on.

2. Extend “olive branches” of connection. When you ask your child to do something and are met with defiance, the first step is to make a connection. Does your child need a hug, a joke or to run down the hall and back before she’s ready to do what you’ve asked? Try being silly before becoming stern. This will help you manage your own level of arousal and, who knows, your child may respond with delight. If your attempts at connection are rebuffed, help your child do what you’ve asked in a calm, matter-of-fact way. Every 30-90 seconds, extend an olive branch to see if your child is ready to reconnect. Sing a little song, tell a little story or try a gentle touch. If she rejects the olive branch, go back to being calm and matter-of-fact.

Once children realize things are going to progress whether they go along happily or not, they’ll often choose to do them the more enjoyable way. When children choose to make the best of things, they’re practicing managing their level of emotional arousal -- an important aspect of self-regulation. However, children can only do this if we adults manage our own annoyance and offer connection.

3. Side-step anger. Many times anger stems from baggage from the past. Perhaps you were once bullied, and when you see your preschooler push another child and laugh when he cries, your brain rolls out a future in which your child goes through life bullying others. While it would be nice if we could just put our parenting on hold for a few years of therapy, this isn’t practical. Instead, learn to side-step your anger. Ask, “What am I afraid of when he does that?” Thank your reptile brain for bringing up this possibility, and then consciously list other possibilities: Perhaps he needs more positive attention or more social tools. Perhaps he recently dropped afternoon naps and that time of day is challenging.

Come up with a plan of action. Set your phone alarm for every hour and take two or three minutes to really connect. Tell stories of people being kind, generous and inclusive, and give him some phrases to use instead of pushing. Set up calming activities for the late afternoon, like a sink of warm, soapy water and some dishes or water toys. If you calmly and consistently correct the misbehavior, the behavior will stop.

4. Restore the connection. Despite our best intentions, sometimes we don’t handle things as well as we’d like. Perhaps your child was defiant and you lost your cool by yelling or punishing. When that happens, some repair work is needed once things calm down. If things were only somewhat bad, you can let your child know that the incident can be put behind you and things can return to normal. You might say, “Whew! I’m so glad that’s over!” as you exaggeratedly collapse into a chair. Then have a snuggle, tell a story or engage in some fun physical play. Once giggles flow again, the connection is restored.

But if the episode was a full-on power struggle, it’s important to reassure your child in an age-appropriate way. This doesn’t mean abject apologies and wallowing in your guilt. It might start with, “Wow, I was really mad, wasn’t I? I’m learning to keep my temper just like you. I’m done being mad now.” Then, in addition to reconnecting, take some time to think about how you’ll react differently in the future. How can you take a moment to connect before asking your child to do this same thing? How can you make the activity itself more enjoyable? Could you skip it altogether? One thing that’s wonderful about parenting is that you’ll always have an opportunity to try again.

Food Safety Tips For Thanksgiving Dinner

Stop Foodborne Illness
For most people, Thanksgiving dinner is the biggest and most busily prepared meal they cook all year. From menu planning to handling leftovers, there are many opportunities for slip ups to contaminate food.

Stop Foodborne Illness, a national, nonprofit, public health organization dedicated to preventing illness and death from foodborne pathogens, is giving cooks a hand with tips for reducing the risk of foodborne illness every step of Thanksgiving Day.

Food safety starts at the grocery store. Brush up on these preparation tips to ensure dinner starts on a safe note.

Separate goods when shopping . Keep raw poultry, meat and seafood away from other food as much as possible. A simple way to prevent meat juices from dripping onto other groceries is by putting these items in separate plastic bags (brought from home or provided by the store) as you shop. Pro Tip: put perishable items, like meat and poultry, in your cart last.

Buy the right bird . Whole turkeys are sold fresh or frozen and buying the right one is crucial. For those who do their Thanksgiving shopping in advance, Stop suggests selecting a frozen bird to reduce the risk foodborne illness. Those who prefer serving a fresh turkey should purchase it within two days of Thanksgiving dinner.

Shop and drop (groceries off at home). Though it can be tempting to run errands or browse early Black Friday sales after grocery shopping, food should not be left in the car for long periods of time as dangerous microorganisms can contaminate produce and poultry. Go home immediately and store food in the refrigerator, freezer or pantry before doing anything else.

Defrost safely . There are three safe ways to defrost a turkey: in the refrigerator, cold water or microwave. Refrigerator thawing takes the longest—24 hours for every 5 pounds of turkey—but is the best method since it uses the least amount of labor and will defrost at a consistent, safe temperature (a 15 lb. turkey will take 3 days). To thaw in cold water, submerge the bird in its original wrapper in cold water, changing the water every 30 minutes. This method takes less time, but requires more attention. Estimate 30 minutes per pound (a 15 lb. turkey will take 7.5 hours, and 15 water changes). For those who forgot to defrost until the last minute and need to thaw fast, refer to your owner’s manual for instructions on microwave defrosting. Pro tip: defrost in advance. A thawed turkey can be kept in the fridge (40°F or below) for up to 4 days.

On Thanksgiving, there is no such thing as too many cooks in the kitchen; having family home to prep, cook and bake together is one of the best things about the holiday. However, having so many helping hands increases the chance of spreading germs. Avoid disaster by reviewing these helpful food safety hints with your kitchen crew.

Wash hands, not the bird. According to an FDA Food Safety Survey, 68% of people wash whole turkeys before cooking. However, rather than getting rid of bacteria, the splashing water allows harmful pathogens to contaminate other areas—like sinks and food prepping surfaces—up to three feet away. Banish bacteria by washing hands before and after handling raw poultry, meat or seafood.

Know your stuff. Traditional stuffing is one of the Thanksgiving foods most susceptible to foodborne illness since harmful bacteria can survive in stuffing that does not reach 165°F. Avoid disaster by putting the stuffed bird in an oven, set to 325°F or higher, immediately after preparation and use a food thermometer to ensure the stuffing reaches the safe minimum internal temperature (165 °F).
Better yet, think outside the turkey. Although dressing—preparing stuffing outside of a turkey—is safer, cooks still need to be aware of potential foodborne illness. If using raw meat, poultry or shellfish in the dish, precook the raw ingredients separately first.

Cook to the right temperature . The only way to determine if meat, poultry or seafood is cooked safely is to check the internal temperature with a food thermometer. Whole turkeys should register 165°F in three locations—the innermost part of the thigh, the innermost part of the wing and the thickest part of the breast.

The best part of Thanksgiving is leftovers! Don’t let post-dinner drowsiness get in the way of food safety and packing up remaining food properly.

Chill out. We mean your food, not you! Refrigerate uneaten food within two hours of cooking to prevent bacteria growth. Stop suggests storing leftovers in shallow containers to decrease cooling time and prevent food from spending too much time at unsafe temperatures (40 °F to 140 °F).

Pro tips : cut turkey off the bone before refrigerating and store stuffing separately from the meat.
BYOC (Bring Your Own Cooler). Thanksgiving means refrigerator space is at a premium. Anticipate little to no refrigerator space and bring a cooler from home. Even if you live in a cold climate, do not use the outdoors as a fridge since temperatures can fluctuate. The best way to keep extra food pathogen-free is in a packed cooler at a safe temperature (40°F or below).

Leftovers last safely for four days in the refrigerator. For those who need a week before eating Thanksgiving again, pack food into airtight containers and freeze.

Sending guests home with leftovers? If they will be traveling for more than two hours, give them ice or frozen gel packs to make sure the food in their coolers stays at or below 40°F.

Cassandra's Review- I found this to be super real and very sad.  It does have adventures, but they lead to terrible things and then the outcomes are mixed.  In the end you so get a sense of hope and a message of moving forward, but you do have to get through some very hard topics.

Armed and Dangerous by John Ramirez Review

Armed and Dangerous:
The Ultimate Battle Plan for Targeting and Defeating the Enemy
by John Ramirez

Dynamic Battle Plan Identifies Enemy Tactics and Equips Believers to Live Victoriously

Jesus made it clear that the devil has come to steal, kill, and destroy. Hell is ready to unleash fury against every follower of Jesus. Yet many believers live in denial, letting the enemy steal their blessings, destroy their relationship with Jesus, and kill their hope.

But no more. It's time to put the enemy on notice!

With passion and insight gained from years on the frontlines of spiritual warfare, John Ramirez equips you with the biblical weapons and practical strategies you need to battle the enemy successfully, including how to
· discern and shut down the enemy's tactics and next moves
· fight with your God-given authority
· break free from destructive patterns and replace them with godly ones
· fortify your mind and heart against attacks
· take back what the devil has stolen
· grow in wisdom and maturity in Christ
· and more!

Here is everything you need to become armed and dangerous against every adversary that threatens your relationship and growth with Jesus. Through the power of the Holy Spirit you can destroy the power of the enemy and protect all that God has given you.

It's time to push back the gates of hell, advance the Kingdom, and live the life God designed you for.

I received a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's Review- The book goes hand in hand with belief and if you are not open to the possibility of spiritual attacks, this is going to seem odd and kind of out of the ordinary.  If you grew up in a religious home more than likely you know all about this kind of thing.  For many it is new and for some it is impossible, so read it at your own discretion and take from it whatever you need to make your personal struggle a little less.  The author seems to have seen both ends of the spiritual world has he knows it and tells fact as her sees it.

The Weaver's Light by Mara Fields Review

The Weaver's Light
by Mara Fields
The Weaver's Light by [Fields, Mara]
After the death of his wife and child, master weaver, Callan Vellus, falls into an emotional darkness so profound that his life shrinks to the size of a brandy bottle; even his passion for his art cannot pull him back into the world. But when he has a distressing vision of falcon-faced warriors destroying a city and its citizens with blue flame leaping from their bare hands, he is roused from his stupor. Following an inexplicable compulsion, he travels north until he reaches the fire-wracked city of his dream where he finds the destruction is worse than he had imagined.

The locals claim that the death and ruin was caused by a freak lightning storm, nothing more, but despite their explanation, Callan cannot shake the feeling his vision was something other than an alcohol-induced hallucination. Pashi is an orphan living in the ravaged city, a girl who has had to learn to be on her own from a young age.

With the help of the secret tricks her mother taught her before she disappeared, Pashi not only lives safely in the streets, but survives a direct attack from the falcon mages. Yet she finds herself even more isolated from her classmates and community after the attack, as they have no memory of bizarre warriors blasting the city with unnatural fire.

But when Callan and Pashi meet, they soon realize they are the only people who know the truth of the bird-faced sorcerers, and what they plan to unleash on the realm. Scrambling to find clues about the invaders and how to stop them, the two uncover more than they’d bargained for, and the malevolent eyes of the falcon men turn on them. Can two unlikely heroes—a weaver and a child—find a way to escape the falcon mage’s wrath long enough to pull all the pieces together and stop the invasion? Or will the sorcerers’ blue flames reduce their world to ashes?

Cassandra's Review-  I feel this story could have been told in 100 pages, the added 300 are just fillers.  While I see the flow happening, I do not think it was the best pace.  I think the author took too much time getting to the points instead of bringing home the action in the chapters.  I could have done without half of the actual scene setups.  In the end the book was good and the story is going to surely kill time getting through.

Michael R. Emlet's Descriptions and Prescriptions Blog Tour

OCD, ADHD, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder . . . these are no longer just technical terms and medical diagnoses, they are part of our common vocabulary and culture.
Descriptions and Prescriptions
As Christians, we shouldn't isolate ourselves from this discussion or dismiss these important issues. But we also should be careful not to accept the entire secular psychiatric diagnostic and treatment enterprise without question. What we need is a balanced, biblically (and scientifically) informed approach that neither blindly accepts nor harshly dismisses psychiatric labels, diagnoses, and medicines that are prescribed to help those who are suffering.

As both a Biblical counselor and medical doctor, Michael R. Emlet, MD, gives readers a Christ-centered approach to psychiatry and guides both lay and professional helpers through the thicket of mental health labels and treatments with a biblical lens. In a clear and thoughtful way that puts the person experiencing mental health issues at the forefront, Emlet uses Scripture to show how the Bible engages in the discussion of psychiatric labels and the medications that are often recommended based on those labels. The first book in the "Helping the Helper" series, Descriptions and Prescriptions will give readers a biblical, gospel-formed perspective to help them understand and minister to those struggling with mental health issues.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's Review-  An interesting read that included facts as well as new knowledge.  The topic is one I am very interested in and found that while it is great to use the bible to help you get through anything, prescription medication is also very important and this author seems to include both.  I do feel like at some points someone might feel guilty or feel more inclined to believe that they are doing something wrong by following doctors advice, but this book will help.

Cassandra's review-  Visually very spectacular with ornate designs.  The font is easy to read.  The binding is strong and looks really neat.  It is an ordinary Bible, but wonderful for my collection of faith.  It would take years to fully finish and understand it all, but you can use it for reference and to teach.   I think it would make a really nice gift this holiday.  I would recommend this Bible to anyone that loves learning and God but younger children might need help reading it.

Laugh It Up By Candace Payne Review

Laugh It Up: Embrace Freedom and Experience Defiant Joy

The world knows Candace Payne as “Chewbacca Mom,” the wife and mother of two from Dallas who captured the hearts of nearly 200 million people around the world with nothing but a toy Chewbacca mask, a smart phone, and infectious laughter.

But what the video doesn’t show is Candace’s storied journey of daunting obstacles on the way to the joy-filled life—extreme poverty, past trauma, and struggles with self-worth.

Laugh It Up! tells the rest of the story behind the woman in the mask. Like most of us, Candace has often felt overlooked, undervalued, and insignificant. But she has also discovered the secrets to unshakable joy that no circumstance can take away, and will help you discover and experience the same.

I received a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's review- My first thought was, wow now she has a book out (eye roll) .  I could not believe that after being a failed blogger, this woman could put on a mask and basically laugh at America and make big bucks doing it.  I do not feel it is genuine or well deserved but who am I to really judge.

Good for her because while all of the other bloggers struggle to make it and work hard to get even a bit of the spotlight, this woman could literally put on a mask and start laughing while making a lot of money in the process.  It could have even been a staged attempt, we will never know....   Now I get to promote the book for free and further give her more exposure.
