The Proving by Beverly Lewis Review

Having left the Amish life for the English world, Amanda Dienner is shocked when she learns that her mother has passed and left her Lancaster County's most popular Amish bed-and-breakfast. The catch is she has to run it herself for one year, acting as hostess. Amanda accepts the terms, but coming home to people she left behind won't be easy.

Cassandra's Review-  I like this author a lot.  While the story is not really new and is very predictable,  and the characters seem to be the same and not really original, the story still hands on itself enough to have kept me interested.  I think that if this is the first time reading one of the book like this written by the author then you might have a little different feeling, but I feel this one is a bit more of a drag on, then a new setting.

5-Word Prayers by Lisa Whittle Review

5 Word Prayers: Where to Start When You Don’t Know What to Say to God
Prayer Doesn't Have to Be Intimidating

Do you find yourself saying the same things to God over and over again? Does a thriving prayer life feel completely out of reach?

Maybe all it takes to open up to God is five little words. Each entry in this forty-day devotional will provide you with a simple five-word prayer, a corresponding Bible verse, and thoughts to encourage you in your communications with your heavenly Father. The short prayers in this book include...

I need You desperately today.
Set my burdened heart free.
Help me to forgive myself.
The strength of your prayers lies in your heart intent, not your word count. Discover a new joy in your conversations with God!

Cassandra's review-  Have you ever had a prayer experience where you felt like you did not know what to say?  How about if you are a believer in God and trying to teach your kids to pray, but get stuck?  This book is great to help with those moments.  It offers a clean and emotional way to send your prayers along.

The Potential Principle By Mark Sanborn Review

The Potential Principle
A Proven System for Closing the Gap Between How Good You Are and How Good You Could Be
By Mark Sanborn

Bestselling author Mark Sanborn (The Fred Factor) shows readers how they can get better by discovering and pursuing their true potential.

We all know how good we are, but none of us knows how good we could be. No matter what we’ve achieved so far, one thing is certain: we can still get better. In The Potential Principle, Mark Sanborn teaches readers how to improve by providing practical steps and revealing where to focus efforts.

Getting better results from consistently using a small set of easily remembered tools, ones that prevent complacency, create improvement, and break through barriers. By identifying the four key areas in which improvement is possible—thinking, performing, learning, and reflecting—and applying the four tools of improvement in those areas—disrupt, refocus, engage, and expand—Sanborn reveals the secret for achieving breakthrough improvement in any area of life.

I received a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's  review-  A tiny bit hard to get through because of the bigger principles involved, I think that while the author did an amazing job on the topic, there might have been too much heaviness that for me as a reader felt a little tuned out.  I think the main thing for you to enjoy this book more is to really be interested in the topic and have a lot of time to really learn instead of just reading a story.

Come and Eat By Bri McKoy Review

Come and Eat
A Celebration of Love and Grace Around the Everyday Table
By Bri McKoy

Come with your brokenness, your celebration, and your worries, but most of all come and eat.

In today's busy and often superficial world, we all crave something deeper and truer. Maybe it's relationships that go beyond the surface or gatherings that allow for joy and pain. Bri McKoy tells us this is within reach! All we need is a table, open hearts, and a simple invitation: come and eat.

McKoy invites us to discover how a common dining-room table can be transformed into a place where brokenness falls away to reveal peace and fellowship. Whether the table is laid with bounty or with meager offerings, whether it is surrounded by the Body of Christ or homeless, broken souls, she shows us that healing begins when we say, "Come in. I may not know you, but I know your maker. And so I offer you my heart."

For all those who are hungry and craving more of God's kingdom in their homes, Come and Eat offers recipes, tips, and questions to jump start conversation, while reminding us that fellowship in God's love is always the most remembered, most cherished nourishment. Because when we make room for others, we make room for God, and our homes become a vibrant source of life, just as he means them to be.

I received a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's Review-  The author welcomes you to learn and trust strangers by feeding them as finding out about them in this book.  While I have personally attended the strangest dinners in my lifetime, this book still give me faith that one day I will be able to do so much more during a sharing a food.

Becoming Momstrong by Heidi St. John Review

Have you ever looked into the faces of the people who call you "mom" and wondered what in the world you got yourself into?

If you're like many Christian moms today, you've been reading the headlines and watching the rapid-fire changes in our culture with frustration and fear. Let's face it: Moms today are facing questions that previous generations didn't even see coming, and even our right to determine what is best for our own children is under fire.

Popular speaker and blogger Heidi St. John (The Busy Mom) believes that today's mothers need a special kind of strength. We need to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. We dare not rely on human strength for the battles we're facing right now.

In Becoming MomStrong, Heidi has a powerful message just for you--the mom in the midst of it all. Through encouragement, practical prayer points, and authentic "me-too" moments, Heidi equips you for a job that only you can do: to train your children to hear God's voice and to walk in truth no matter where our culture is heading.

God wants to use this generation of mothers to do something extraordinary:

To be strong in the Lord
To know who you are in Christ, and
To impart that strength to your kids.
In other words, He wants you to be Mom Strong! So if you're feeling tired or inadequate today, get ready to find new strength as you join Heidi St. John in Becoming MomStrong.

- What did you like about the book and why?  I like that the author represents her beliefs so strongly and chose to bring her message through this book.

- What did you not like about the book and why?  I feel that it may be a bit to pushy and have more do moments then teach moments.  It is all faith based and gives no other points.

- What did you learn? I think that the author is strong in her beliefs and pushes them through the book.

- To whom would you recommend this book and why?  A Mom that is strong in their faith and demands their children to learn in a mighty way.

Cassandra's review-  The book has a lot of spices and ingredients that I usually do not keep on hand in my kitchen.   The methods of frying and over coal cooking is also not easily available,  but a few of the recipes were easy to execute and taste really good.  I also did not realize that you could bake so much with sweet potatoes.

Rule of Law Blog Tour @TyndaleHouse #ChristFic #reading @litfuse

A must-add to your fall #reading list: the new legal thriller from Randy Singer and @TyndaleHouse! #ChristFic
Rule of Law
What did the president know? And when did she know it?

For the members of SEAL Team Six, it was a rare mission ordered by the president, monitored in real time from the Situation Room. The Houthi rebels in Yemen had captured an American journalist and a member of the Saudi royal family. Their executions were scheduled for Easter Sunday. The SEAL team would break them out.
But when the mission results in spectacular failure, the finger-pointing goes all the way to the top.
Did the president play political games with the lives of U.S. service members?
Paige Chambers, a determined young lawyer, has a very personal reason for wanting to know the answer. The case she files will polarize the nation and test the resiliency of the Constitution. The stakes are huge, the alliances shaky, and she will be left to wonder if the saying on the Supreme Court building still holds true.

Equal justice under law.

It makes a nice motto. But will it work when one of the most powerful people on the planet is also a defendant?
Randy Singer
Randy Singer is a critically acclaimed author and veteran trial attorney. He has penned more than ten legal thrillers, including his award-winning debut novel "Directed Verdict." In addition to his law practice and writing, he serves as a teaching pastor for Trinity Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He also teaches classes in advocacy and ethics at Regent Law School and serves on the school's Board of Visitors.

Cassandra's Review-  It was not so much thrilling as it felt like pulling teeth to get through most of the book. It is just written so long paced as well as adding a ton of politics to the story.  I feel like if the author lighten up on the political aspect and placed more focus on the action or thrill, this might have been less full of wind.
