Restoring Christmas By Cynthia Ruchti Review @WorthyPub @cynthiaruchti #RestoringChristmas

Alexis Blake has one chance to land her own show on the Home Project Network and nothing, not an uncooperative client, a job site without indoor plumbing, or a challenging videographer, is going to stand in her way. Elsie, at seventy-plus, is far from the ideal client, but she knows exactly what she wants her fieldstone house to look like, and no designer can tell her otherwise.

Gabe Langley, the man with the camera, is caught in the middle and it is his wisdom and warmth that just may be the bridge that will bring these two women together. Can they restore more than just a house and bring about special, almost lost forever Christmas memories?

Cassandra's Review-  With this book you get so much emotion and really kind of involved in the main character.  I found that I dove into the chapters more so within a few pages and did not want to come back out of well written storyline.  The whole design of the book is carefully planned and executed to give someone a heart full of grace and wisdom.

The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill by Julie Klassen Review

28561667

First Series from Bestselling Author Julie Klassen!

On a rise overlooking the Wiltshire countryside stands the village of Ivy Hill. Its coaching inn, The Bell, is its lifeblood--along with the coach lines that stop there daily, bringing news, mail, travelers, and much-needed trade.

Jane Bell lives on the edge of the inn property. She had been a genteel lady until she married the charming innkeeper who promised she would never have to work in his family's inn. But when he dies under mysterious circumstances, Jane finds herself The Bell's owner, and worse, she has three months to pay a large loan or lose the place.

Feeling reluctant and ill-equipped, Jane is tempted to abandon her husband's legacy and return to her former life of ease. However, she soon realizes there is more at stake than her comfort. But who can she trust to help her? Her resentful mother-in-law? Her husband's brother, who wanted the inn for himself? Or the handsome newcomer with secret plans of his own . . . ?

With pressure mounting from the bank, Jane struggles to win over naysayers and turn the place around. Can Jane bring new life to the inn, and to her heart as well?

Cassandra's Review-  The questionable men and two women trying to bring an Inn up to payment is really slower paced as far as the story.  I do not think young readers will gain by reading this and the book should be enjoyed by older men and women.   It has a time and setting that most females enjoy, with a box of tissues and a good cup or two of tea.

Buddha’s Diet: The Ancient Art of Losing Weight Without Losing Your Mind Book Review

27191315
There’s a lot you probably don’t know about the Buddha. For one, the real Buddha was thin. And before he became the “Enlightened One,” he was a pampered prince named Siddhartha. He tried starving himself in his quest for inner peace, but found that extremes brought him no closer to enlightenment. Instead, he sought a “middle way” between unhealthy overindulgence and unrealistic abstinence. The instructions he gave his monks about eating, more than 2,500 years ago, were surprisingly simple.

Fast forward to today. Cutting edge scientific research tells us something Buddha knew all along. It’s not what you eat, but when you eat that’s most important. You don’t need to follow the latest fads or give up your favorite foods. You just need to remember a few guidelines that Buddha provided—guidelines that, believe it or not, will help you lose weight, feel better, and stop obsessing about food. Sure, Buddha lived before the age of cronuts, but his wisdom and teachings endure, providing us with a sane, mindful approach to eating. With chapters that ponder questions like “What would Buddha drink?” and “Did Buddha do Crossfit?” Buddha’s Diet offers both an attainable and sustainable strategy for achieving weight-loss nirvana.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's Review-  The book is super interesting and packed with Q and A for Buddha.   I always wonder if the answers are more of what the author thinks or based really on actual proof.  I know it states scientific research but you just never know.   It is a very well constructed book of real and helpful tips.   If you have a thing for trying new diets, this is a must read.

Once Upon a Piece of Paper By Andrea D'Aquino Review

Once Upon a Piece of Paper: A Visual Guide to Collage Making (Hardback)

No one needs to be told that stress levels are at an all-time high. Post-election, pre-holiday, we are all overwhelmed.

Last year coloring books seemed to be the perfect way to unwind and relieve everyday tension and connect with a simple and satisfying inner creativity

This year we need a little more.

The next step is an art as primal and gratifying as coloring, but one that requires a little more focus, a little more flexibility, a little more active expression of choice and personality.

Collage is not only a currently trending art form, it is a simple and accessible way to focus on the inner self and ignore the outside world for a while. It requires only basic guidance and material, and allows the creator to express the primal inexpressible, outside of the lines and outside of the rules.

The book
Includes a 112-page paperback book plus a pad of 100 unique collage papers on two-sided sheets, all inside of a beautiful hardcover case with an elastic band. Find out how layers of simple paper can create mysterious and beautiful worlds within worlds through the art of collage.

Once Upon a Piece of Paper: A Visual Guide to Collage is a dynamic mix of art-making wisdom, creative inspiration, and fun activities to guide curious artists on the art of collage. Readers are treated to a simple yet sophisticated "look and learn" approach, all in a very special package.

Yet, how does one begin collaging? While there's not a hard set of rules, collage artist Andrea D'Aquino shows that there are important things a new artist needs to know when they begin making work. As she shares insights into the artistic process, D'Aquino's playful compositions illuminate various approaches to the art form, spark ideas for creativity, and encourage aspiring artists to take risks, allowing space for wonderful accidents to occur.

The entire package includes an attractive hard cover case with a 112-page paperback book and 50 two-sided sheets of unique, printed collage papers to get you started. This set begs to be the inspiration for all your collage mysteries, discoveries, and creations.

Publisher: Quarry Books
ISBN: 9781631592645

I received a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's Review-  The only problem I had was that this book is so visually beautiful I did not want to wreck the paper and wonderful additions.  It really includes everything needed to get anyone's mind ready for abstract project in collage.   The author helps and inspires in a way that makes this book a really cool gift for any age, old enough to read and understand it.

A Boy Called Christmas By Matt Haig Review

Before there was Santa Claus, there was a young boy who believed in the impossible. . . . Lemony Snicket meets Elf in this warm hearted Christmas caper.

Eleven-year-old Nikolas—nicknamed “Christmas”—has received only one toy in his life: a doll carved out of a turnip. But he’s happy with his turnip doll, because it came from his parents, who love him. Then one day his father goes missing, and Nikolas must travel to the North Pole to save him.

Along the way, Nikolas befriends a surly reindeer, bests a troublesome troll, and discovers a hidden world of enchantment in the frozen village of Elfhelm. But the elves of Elfhelm have troubles of their own: Christmas spirit and goodwill are at an all-time low, and Nikolas may be the only person who can fix things—if only he can reach his father before it’s too late. . . .

Sparkling with wit and warmth, A Boy Called Christmas is a cheeky new Christmas classic-in-the-making from acclaimed author Matt Haig and illustrator Chris Mould.

Matt Haig
Biography
Matt Haig is a British author for children and adults. His memoir Reasons to Stay Alive was a number one bestseller, staying in the British top ten for 46 weeks. His children's book A Boy Called Christmas was a runaway hit in his own country and is translated in over 25 languages. It is being made into a film by Studio Canal and The Guardian called it an 'instant classic'. Neil Gaiman said of his writing: 'Haig has an empathy for the human condition, the light and the dark of it, and he uses the full palette to build his excellent stories'. His novels for adults include the award-winning The Radleys and The Humans.

Cassandra's Review-  I actually reviewed the Audio version of this book.  It was 4 CDS and 4 1/2 hours long.   The story is very cozy and told in a way that will delight children.   To be able to play this for years to come will be a great new tradition.    I would also like to have the actual book as I feel that my children love to hear stories in my voice.

Of Stillness and Storm By Michèle Phoenix Review

29492092

“I felt torn between two worlds. Each with its own mystery. One more captivating than the other, but the other more real and breathing.”

It took Lauren and her husband ten years to achieve their dream—reaching primitive tribes in remote regions of Nepal. But while Sam treks into the Himalayas for weeks at a time, finding passion and purpose in his work among the needy, Lauren and Ryan stay behind, their daily reality more taxing than inspiring. For them, what started as a calling begins to feel like the family’s undoing.

At the peak of her isolation and disillusion, a friend from Lauren’s past enters her life again. But as her communication with Aidan intensifies, so does the tension of coping with the present while re engaging with the past. It’s thirteen-year-old Ryan who most keenly bears the brunt of her distraction.

Intimate and bold, Of Stillness and Storm weaves profound dilemmas into a tale of troubled love and honorable intentions gone awry.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's Review-   For me this book was not really a huge hit, I felt that it was just too mingled with a sad kind of drama.   I would have really like to read a more positive vibe in the author's tone.   The way the tones in language are used made me feel a bit uncomfortable at times.  This is really a book for adults as I would not really want any of my younger children or teens to read it.
