Kookabuk Shares His Shovel by brother-author duo Jesse and Kevin Howard Blog Tour and Review

In Kookabuk Shares His Shovel, the first installment of the series, heroine Emily helps her friend Kookabuk learn how to share one of his most prized possessions—a green shovel. While most children are inherently very protective of their toys, Kookabuk’s reaction against sharing is elevated and prolonged. Fearful that Emily is confused and afraid to play with her son, Kookabuk’s mother steps in to guide their social interaction.

A new take on a children's illustrated book, Kookabuk Shares His Shovel features beautifully drawn illustrations on top of photographs, inserting the magic of Kookabuk into the real world. A must-have for librarians, educators, parents and relatives of both special needs and neurotypical children everywhere, topics and themes explored in Kookabuk Shares His Shovel include:

The power of using social stories as tools to help children prepare to succeed in new situations
Why it is important for parents and caregivers to act as facilitators of social interactions for their special children
See the child first— a reminder for parents and caregivers to see the child before the special needs
Emily (the neurotypical child in the story) as a hero that other children like her can learn patience, understanding, and compassion from

Cassandra's Review-  It is very hard to share your favorite things sometimes, and I know adults that can not do it to this day.  If you have a little one with special needs this lesson is kind of difficult too based on disability.   These days people are encourages not to share because of the sickness and diseases, however teaching little ones the lesson of giving as well as in some cases sharing is extremely important.

Cassandra's Review- The kids had this together within 5 minutes, everything was easy to assemble and the parts worked as described.   The number of the parts are numbered but not on the instructions, but you can see where the shapes would go.   It's a cool toy, probably younger kids or die hard fans of Star wars will love it.
