Cassandra's Review-  Before reading this book I did not have a clue about really dyeing with natural botanicals.  I think this is a great book for anyone who is willing to learn and try new things and even the younger kids can take part in some of the projects.   The whole book is written and designed in a good order to keep me on the same page as what I would need to do.   Very cool!

The King of the Friend Zone by Sheralyn Pratt $50 Amazon Gift Card or Paypal Cash Giveaway

King of the Friend Zone The King of the Friend Zone by Sheralyn Pratt Esme Taylor has an amazing fiancé, a lifelong best friend, and a problem. The problem stems from the fact that her best friend is named Hunter and, well. . .he’s kind of (totally) hot. It’s hate at first sight when her fiancé, Jon, and Hunter meet. Jon’s convinced that Hunter is in love with Esme, and that Hunter must be out of the picture if their upcoming marriage is to succeed. Esme thinks Jon is paranoid. The truth is, Jon’s not that far off. Hunter is in love with his best friend and always has been. What Jon has wrong, however, is that Hunter never had any plans of ruining Esme’s happily ever after. Hunter wants what’s best for Esme, even if that’s not him. When Jon pushes hard to end Esme and Hunter’s friendship, opposition comes from the most unlikely of places. It’s an eccentric lady with a cookie cart who suggests a different solution to Esme’s problem: Hunter and Esme should give each other a chance. They’ve both thought of the possibility over the years—of course they have. But with a ring already on Esme’s finger and a heap of hurt feelings and broken trust in the mix, there hasn’t been a worse time to explore the depths of their feelings for each other. Both Esme and Hunter think it’s time to move on and leave childhood crushes in the past. The question is: Can one woman and the taste of one cookie change their minds? amazon add to goodreads   SheralynAuthor Sheralyn Pratt

Few things increase empathy more than walking in another's shoes for 100,000 words or so. At least that seems to be the trend so far.
Some random things to know about Sheralyn: * She's a wanderer (geographically) * She can write a novel, but doesn't have the attention span for one page in a journal * She vehemently disagrees with Stephen King's stance that authors should not watch TV * She is pretty much incapable of sleeping before midnight

About the Book

“Do Not Return To Texas!” Marti Rushing gets the message, loud and clear. If she returns to Texas, her life is in danger. If she stays in Tennessee, she’s safe. But when she receives a letter telling her that Daniel, her ex-husband and the love of her life, is dying, she knows she has to defy the stalker and return to Texas to see him. Three years ago, Daniel accused her of things she couldn’t remember doing. Without waiting for an explanation and after four wonderful years of marriage, Daniel kicks her off of his family’s Quarter Horse ranch. Now, three years after their separation, he walks into her art reception in Tennessee and acts like he doesn’t remember her. Does the memory loss have anything to do with the letter she received, or is Daniel pretending? Is he the one stalking her, or is it someone with a deadly, sinister motive? Ignoring the deadly warnings, she leaves for Texas, but on the way there, the attempts on her life begin. Will she be able to evade her pursuer’s attacks? Or will Daniel’s face be the last one she sees?

Cassandra's Review- I was not a huge fan of this book as it seemed a little out of place and a tad bit more drawn out.  I guess I just do not care for the writing style or the pace needed to keep things interesting.  I would not however count this out for anyone else to read as it could very well have just enough mystery to keep you happy.

The Honeybee Sisters by Jennifer Beckstrand Tour and cookbook Giveaway

About the Books
Sweet as Honey: Click here to purchase

Smart, kind, and good-hearted, the three Christner girls are affectionately known as The Honeybee Sisters in the beloved Wisconsin Amish community where, under the care of their aunt, they’ve grown into skilled beekeepers–and lovely, sought-after young women. . .

Though she has blossomed into a beauty, Lily Christner doesn’t really believe it. Deep down, she still feels like a lonely, gawky teenager. Maybe that’s why she’s all but promised herself to Paul Glick, the one boy who never teased her in her awkward girlhood–unlike Dan Kanagy, whose creative name-calling left her in tears many a time. Now he’s back in town after two years away–and being surprisingly sweet, suspiciously attentive–and making Lily unsettlingly yet deliciously nervous. It seems Dan wants Lily’s forgiveness–and her heart. But can he convince her–not to mention her protective schwesters and aendi–that despite the past, her future lies with him?…

A Bee in Her Bonnet: Click here to purchase

Lively, determined, and independent, Poppy Christner isn’t about to let some vandal keep making mischief on her family’s farm. She’s been outrunning boys and standing up for picked-on children ever since she was a girl–no matter how much her prideful, arrogant schoolmate Luke Bontrager insulted her. So Poppy certainly doesn’t need his interference now, especially since he’s made it plain he prefers demure, ladylike companions. In fact, if Luke doesn’t stop helping her find the culprit–and growing humble and remorseful–she’ll be forced to notice how handsome his change-of-heart is making him. And that could mean falling in love–maybe for a lifetime…

Like a Bee to Honey: Click here to purchase

Shy, skittish Rose Christner is more comfortable tending to the beehives on the family farm and keeping her aunt’s unruly cats in line than attending social gatherings with the rest of the die youngie. A childhood trauma and secret shame keep her heart under lock and key, and Rose just can’t accept the sweet attention she’s receiving from a handsome neighbor. But the more she shies away from Josiah Yoder, the more their families sneakily plot to bring them together. And when a vandal who’s been plaguing the Honeybee Farm starts targeting Rose, Josiah’s steadfast protection—and patience—just may lead her into his waiting arms…

About the Book

Cole Sanders is a changed man. The university quarterback questions his direction in life after serving on a mission trip in Honduras. Things that used to fill Cole’s ego seem empty after witnessing the developing country’s extreme poverty and the death of a precious child. The one glimmer of hope through his confusion is the fresh perspective he now has about his tutor, Audrey. She possesses something beautiful inside and out—something that might help him become the person he wants to be.

University senior Audrey Vaughn tutored Cole Sanders for an entire year and never imagined the popular quarterback would see her as anything more than a friend. After partnering with him on the mission trip, they are drawn together. And he appears to have changed for the better. To let Cole into her life, Audrey will have to overcome not only her brother’s distrust, but also the paralyzing fear still lingering from a past she’s tried to leave behind.

Cole can’t walk away from Audrey now that they’re back in Oxford. He’ll have to figure out how to keep her giant of a brother, a lineman on his football team, from killing him when the coach has his back turned. But can Audrey trust her heart to a player so similar to the one who stole so much from her in the past?
My Review

This is by far my favorite book in the Southern Heart series! I am so glad Janet decided to write this story about Cole and Audrey. Both with broken pasts, but promising futures. This book reminded me that with God, all things are possible. It doesn’t matter what happened in the past, what matters is relying on Him for the future.

Faith played a big part in the journey of Cole and Audrey, but I love that Janet wrote realistically. Not everyone has perfect faith and we all fall every now and then, but the wonderful part is that God is there waiting for us. Another part of this book that touched home for me was the power of forgiveness. I not spoil the story, but forgiveness was an important issue towards the last third of the book. I think it’s something we all struggle with actually. Janet again shows her ability to write realistically, yet in a hopeful way for us to look back on for years to come.

I am eagerly awaiting the release of the fourth book in this series….but this is going to be one tough act to follow!! I received a complimentary copy of this book from CelebrateLit in exchange for an honest review which I have given.

Happy Healthy Cat Month: Show the World That You and Your Cat Are #PurrfectTogether with @Meow Mix

September is Happy Healthy Cat Month—and there's never been a better time to show our cats some extra love. Recently, the cat lovers at Meow Mix ran the Purrfect Together Survey, which asked cat parents around the country about their special bond with their four-legged friends. Here are some of the meow-nificent results:

83% of cats take naps with their humans

This is surprising—and not because 83% of people love napping with kitty. The bigger question is: Who are the 17% of deprived humans who don't get to experience the joy of napping with their cats?

80% of cat parents believe they can interpret their kitty's meows

While humans and cats may purr in different languages, that doesn't stop most cat mommies and daddies from understanding what their kitty wants—whether it be some treats, cat nip, or just a snuggle partner.

72% of cat parents love to surprise their kitties with treats

Speaking of treats, nothing makes a cat happier than some spontaneous, unexpected goodies from the person who cares for them the most.

55% of cats love chicken-flavored nibbles

Exciting news:  Meow Mix has just released a brand new culinary-inspired food made with real chicken or salmon, Bistro Recipes—a classy meal for a classy kitty! Head over Meow Mix's new Purrfect Together web portal [] right meow, and you can download a coupon for $2.50 off any bag of Meow Mix Bistro Recipes.

And that's not all! You need a classy painting to go with that classy meal. On the Purrfect Together portal, you can enjoy the unique experience of converting a photo of you and your cat into a Meowsterpiece—a digital "oil" painting that helps express and immortalize your cat-love on canvas. I did it, and you should too!

Tiny taste buds can be just as discerning as those of grown-ups, so why feed your baby a lackluster pile of bland paste? In Around the World in 80 Purees, Saini shares her research of global first foods and offers developmentally appropriate serving suggestions and tips for safely introducing babies to herbs, spices, and other ingredients. More than 100 quick and easy recipes, accompanied by richly colorful photographs by Christine Han, take readers on a culinary tour of the globe:

Savory and Sweet Selections for Babies 6 Months and Up: No more bland peas and carrots—for the littlest eaters, Saini offers India’s Cardamom Banana Oatmeal, Spain’s Saffron Applesauce, China’s Gingered Plum Puree, Milk-Poached Salmon with Dill and Mustard from Scandinavia, and Belize’s Sweet Corn, Bean, and Coconut Milk Stew.

Flavorful Spoonfuls and Mouthwatering Meals: For older babies, Saini shares recipes for Turkey’s Seasoned Lamb Kebabs, Brazil’s Baked Cod with Papaya and Bananas, North African Vegetable Couscous with Harissa, Mexico’s Cinnamon Avocado Banana Ice Cream, Japan’s Tamagoyaki, Lebanon’s Muhallabia, Italy’s Pastina with Parmesan and Nutmeg, a vegetable stew from Ethiopia, Bamya Alicha, and many, many more.

Around the World in 80 Purees is the ideal cookbook for parents who want to prepare nutritious and flavorful foods for their baby and raise more adventurous, less fussy eaters. With it, infants and toddlers alike will be able to travel the world without ever leaving the comfort of their high chair.

Cassandra's Review- I have always fed my little ones baby food from a jar until just a few years ago when I found out how much better it was to create foods for them.  I think that taking the time to try new things with your little one can be a huge benefit and both of you can have fun tasting the different flavors of this book.  I personally would not even have tried them myself as a combination, but I am so excited to do so.

The recipes are easy and what I like is that all ages can enjoy them from 6 months up and I found everything to be easy to understand.  Some of the food I will never find in the grocery stores around my area, but most are affordable.

The Fall of Lord Drayson The Fall of Lord Drayson by Rachael Anderson Who is he really? A high and mighty lord or a lowly servant? When Colin Cavendish, the new earl of Drayson, informs Lucy Beresford that she and her mother need to vacate the house they've called home for the past two years, Lucy is fit to be tied. They have no money, no relations they can turn to for help, and nowhere to go. How dare the earl break the promise his father had made to the Beresfords without so much as a twinge of conscience? Fate plays her hand when Lucy discovers the earl unconscious and injured in the middle of the road. When he awakens with no recollection of who he is, Lucy seizes the opportunity to teach the earl a much-needed lesson in humility and tells him that he is nothing more than a mere servant. With All Due Respect By Nina Roesner and Debbie Hitchcock Review

With All Due Respect is a handbook for parents navigating the difficulties of the tween and teen years. Roesner and Hitchcock help parents identify what successful relationships look like and give easy-to-follow lessons in enforcing rules, communicating lovingly, resetting relationships, overcoming fears and exhaustion, and handling rebellion.

Each day features a story every mom can relate to, down-to-earth questions to think about, and a prayer to launch an action plan. As a result, the reader gains new skills and perspective, greater strength, and an ability to live out faith daily as never before. With All Due Respect is for all parents seeking not only to connect more deeply with and positively impact their teens and tweens, but also to grow more deeply in faith through the process.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's Review-  I found it like a light in the dark and as a mom to sometimes many more children then I birthed, this is a very true book. Now for some people who do not follow God or see a true need, connection or existence, this book is not going to be for you.  The authors have obviously found God and feel that life is only to be lived with him.

So stopping to pray might not be at all what you think is going to work.  I would recommend this for all the rest of the God fearing, loving ,open hearted people of the world that would like to adjust themselves both mentally and spiritually while not getting mad enough to take out one of your own family members.

Greater Than Gold From Olympic Heartbreak to Ultimate Redemption By David Boudia Review

One of America’s most heralded young divers, David Boudia twice went for Olympic gold, training obsessively and whole-heartedly for success. In his first Olympics, he failed miserably, not winning a single medal. Four years later saw a different story: he mounted the podium twice, winning both gold and bronze. The difference? In the intervening years, he’d changed the focus of his quest from seeking glory for himself to giving glory to God.

In Greater Than Gold, Boudia provides a behind-the-scenes access to the rarefied world of world-class athletics while also showing readers that when they place their hope in God, they receive what they’ve been seeking all along.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's Review-  I have heard the saying that with God  all things are possible and I so I feel that if you are a believer and give your glory to God good things could happen for you.   Being able to lift yourself up mentally with the help of religion is great and I was very happy to read about the triumph of such a well deserved guy.  The book was written in a way that most older ages can enjoy it.

Cassandra's Review Q&A-

- What did you like about the book and why?  The way that everything is believable and not out of the possibility of actually happening was a good touch to the easy to understand and follow book.   There is a good amount of suspense but not a huge build up.

- What did you not like about the book and why? I did not like that it was the end of the series as I not only read out of order but the conclusion so that I would not be able to go back and read the full series.

- What did you learn? The author has a good writing style that I enjoyed.

- To whom would you recommend this book and why?  I think that middle aged women might like this a lot more, but that is just my opinion because to me the tone is more laid back with a good element of suspense

Starry-Eyed By Mandy Arioto Review

Being a mom is all of it: light and dark, highs and lows, fever pitch frustration and all-consuming love. By now, you already know that with great love comes great joy . . . and great pain. It can be crazy-making! But it doesn’t have to be.

In Starry-Eyed, MOPS CEO Mandy Arioto reveals how the brightest and darkest moments of motherhood alike can become a sacred—and sanity-saving— opportunity to encounter God. There is a way to flourish in the midst of it all, and it starts with embracing the light and darkness in life with expectation and awe.

Heartening, enchanting, and always unflinchingly honest, Starry-Eyed will show you how to find the unexpected grace in your life as a woman, wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Consider this your heart-to-heart sit-down with a woman who’s been there, and can help you find fresh eyes to see how beauty and pain can mingle with purpose.

Cassandra's Review-  The author seems to write openly in a tone that is honest.  I found the book to have a few moments where as a mom I could actually relate.  Getting closer or learning about God to some has a different view from everyone, but it is a really good outcome for those who seek to learn.  The book has a good connection for both.

About the Author:

Mandy Arioto currently serves as the President and CEO of Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) International where she represents the voice of millions of mothers all over the world. She regularly speaks to national and international audiences on the topics of mothering, spirituality and cultural trends. When she’s not working diligently to finish the next book in her Sweet Shop Mystery series, Naomi tries to make time for attending workshops and writers conferences. One of her favorites is the four-day event that the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) organization holds annually.

Naomi also enjoys traveling with her family, singing inspirational/gospel music, taking a daily walk, and witnessing to others of the amazing grace of Jesus Christ.

Naomi is excited to be doing two special giveaways — 1) a gift bag full of treats and 2) an advanced reader digital copy of Christmas Cookie Mystery (but you’ll have to wait for it)!

In the meantime, here’s the recipe for those delicious blueberry cupcakes

Blueberry Cupcakes

1 white or yellow cake mix
2 cups fresh blueberries
3 eggs
1/3 cup oil
1 1/3 cup water

Prepare cake mix according to the directions. Add blueberries and fold into batter. Bake following instructions on cake mix box.

1 cup confectioner’s sugar
2 tbsp. milk
additional milk as needed

Prepare icing, mixing small amounts of confectioner’s sugar with milk to desired consistency. Spread onto cooled cupcakes.

To celebrate her tour, Naomi is giving away a gift bag full of treats and an advanced copy of her new book Christmas Cookie Mystery!
