Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Water (Aqua), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Macadamia (Nut) Ternifolia Seed Oil, Cera Alba Beeswax, Bee Propolis Extract, Lecithin, Polygliceryl-4 oleate, Tocopherol (Non-GMO "TocoBiol")

Cassandra's review- The scent is really strong and noticeable.  I like the texture because it is not runny or misty, but thicker and easy to rub in.   I did use quite a bit during my testing, but I did not have any skin irritation or redness.  I did not get bit where the lotion was applied, but I did get a few insects landing on me and a few bites in places where it was not.  So overall coverage is very important and 3.4 fl oz would not last my whole family very long.

Be Light Like a Bird by Monika Schroder Review

Be Light Like a Bird

Be Light Like a Bird
by Monika Schröder

After the death of her father, twelve-year-old Wren finds her life thrown into upheaval. And when her mother decides to pack up the car and forces Wren to leave the only home she's ever known, the family grows even more fractured. As she and her mother struggle to build a new life, Wren must confront issues with the environment, peer pressure, bullying, and most of all, the difficulty of forgiving those who don't deserve it.

A quirky, emotional middle grade novel set in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Be Light Like a Bird features well-drawn, unconventional characters and explores what it means to be a family — and the secrets and lies that can tear one apart.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

Author Monika Schröder

Monika Schröder writes novels for middle-grade readers. Her books include My Brother's Shadow, which was nominated for the 2014 New York State Reading Association's Charlotte Award; Saraswati's Way, a Story of an Indian Street Child, which Bank Street College named one of the best books of 2011; and The Dog in the Wood, which earned a starred review from Kirkus and was chosen by Voya as "Top shelf fiction for middle school readers."

Monika grew up in Germany but has lived and worked in Egypt, Oman, Chile, and India. She brought an Indian Street dog, whom she calls Frank, from New Delhi to her current home in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. When Frank isn't demanding her attention, Monika invents vegetarian dishes, bakes cheesecakes, and tends her garden.

Cassandra's review- The book is going to be good for middle and high school kids.  It is sad and blended with emotions, but the strength and bravery of Wren shines through the pages.  The author really put me in a place of feeling humble and wanting to protect Wren.  I do not want to give away too much, but it was great taking the time to read this book.

Office Depot Foundation National Backpack Program Donates 200,000 Sackpacks & School Supplies @OfficeDepotFndn

The Office Depot Foundation National Backpack program is back for its 16th year, giving children around the world the tools they need to succeed in school. The program which will donate 200,000 sackpacks filled with school supplies this year, and that has helped more than 4 million children since it began in 2001.
For children to succeed in school, they need to have the right tools: pencils, pens, crayons and such – and something to carry them in, of course. With these in hand, they can walk out the door each morning with a sense of pride – excited about the day ahead.

Unfortunately, millions of kids are far from properly equipped for school. In fact, untold numbers of youngsters head out in the morning with nothing but a plastic bag or a pillowcase to carry their books and school supplies in – if they even have any supplies to carry.

The Office Depot Foundation has worked exceptionally hard to change this troubling reality. By donating great-looking new sackpacks containing essential school supplies to deserving children, they are giving them invaluable tools they can use to succeed in the classroom.

The sackpacks  they donate are designed with kids in mind – they come in seven different color combinations with kid-friendly graphics. You will not find the Office Depot Foundation’s logo anywhere on the sackpacks – except for a removable paper tag because they want to be sure that children are proud to carry the sackpacks they receive, with no risk of being stigmatized by something that clearly identifies it as an act of charity.

I recevied complimentary product.

Cassandra's Review- First of all a huge high five to everyone who has taken the time to make this program possible.  Each beautifully designed pack can hold books and a lot of other things.   They are easy to carry and each pack has a pen, pencil, pencil case, crayons, pencil sharpener, eraser and a ruler.

The coolest part about the whole program is gifting these to children in need.  Just watching someone be blessed and feel the excitement it brings is wonderful.   I was able to hand a few of these out to some local homeschool families that I know are in desperate need of supplies.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

Photo of Robin Ha

Born in Seoul, Korea, ROBIN HA grew up reading and drawing comics. At fourteen she moved to the United States. After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in illustration, she moved to New York City and started a career in the fashion industry. Her work has been published in independent comics anthologies including Secret Identities and The Strumpet, as well as in the pages of Marvel Comics and Heavy Metal Magazine. Her blog Banchan in 2 Pages features Korean recipe comics. She currently resides in Falls Church, Virginia.

Cassandra's Review- Because of the choice of font used for the text in this book and the comic book design this is extremely cluttered and hard to read.  The recipes however are really good and should you be able to find any of the ingredients cheaply near you, they are easier to understand and prepare.

If a recipe calls for fish sauce or seafood, there is no substitute given, so it might not be wonderful for people with certain allergies.   The illustrations are done well and are clear to look at.

Back to School with U.S Cellular #BetterMoments #spon

U.S. Cellular

The combination of powerful, easy-to-use mobile devices and tablets along with a reliable network such as U.S. Cellular’s high-quality network with nationwide coverage gives kids access to information for school and parents peace of mind.

Unique Parent-Child Agreement

The learning experience for students is evolving as more schools are opting for electronic textbooks and adopting technology like tablets and smartphones as learning tools.

That means wireless devices — like the Apple®iPad® Pro (12.9-inch) - Space Gray 128GB  — make it easier to get homework assignments, stay on top of studies and get input from school administrators and teachers.

U.S. Cellular’s high-speed network connects these students and teachers to all the information they need to excel in school, even if they are not in the classroom.

There’s an uptick in inquiries about data usage, family plans and new devices at this time of year as students prepare to enter classes where they can bring their own device or use tablets rather than books.

The beginning of the school year is when many children get their first cellphone. Many parents want their students to have a phone because of after school activities, team practices or they’re home alone until a parent gets home from work.

U.S. Cellular associates can offer families tips on choosing the right cellphones, tablets and data plans.

In a recent U.S. Cellular survey, respondents said the average age of children getting their own cellphone from a parent is 11, whereas five years ago this age was 14. That same survey showed that safety was the primary reason. The appropriate time varies from family to family, and parents can be challenged with how best to introduce their child to their first phone.

How parents can ensure this transition goes smoothly:

A mobile phone serves many essential purposes in our daily lives. It can strengthen relationships between children and their parents and can also create a lot of family fun. But getting a child their first cellphone comes with responsibility. It’s helpful to establish parameters, and the key is making sure both parents and children see eye-to-eye on how the devices are used.

To make this process as easy as possible for both parents and kids, U.S. Cellular recommends that families work together on guidelines for cellphone usage to ensure that children are using their phones responsibly, courteously and safely. That’s why U.S. Cellular created the Parent-Child Agreement [HYPERLINK UNIQUE PCA URL]. It provides customizable suggestions on safety and etiquette and shows how technology can enhance time spent together as a family. It is designed so that each family can choose the guidelines that fit their specific needs.

According to our recent survey, 72 percent of parents surveyed do have rules about their kids’ cell phone use.

Tips parents can use when introducing their child to their first cellphone:

Take the time to set up your child’s phone to ensure they only have access to phone features and apps that are appropriate for their age. There are apps available that help parents monitor their child’s mobile web usage and allow parents to block certain websites and restrict the downloading of applications.

Back to school means more teenage drivers on the road. Here are some tips about cellphone usage for young drivers:

There will be new teenage drivers on the road with the start of the new school year. Even with the most responsible teens, it's a major milestone.

Parents can set up cellphone guidelines for their teen using U.S. Cellular’s Parent-Child Agreement
While accessories such as Bluetooth headsets are helpful, it’s important that drivers remain focused on the road and let calls go to voicemail and texts get answered once the car is parked.

Devices parents can use to monitor their teen’s car:
Vehicle Monitoring
U.S. Cellular’s Vehicle Monitoring System is a device that can be installed in your teen’s car. Parents can use the app on their 4G LTE iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S7 or any tablet, to check a vehicle’s location on a map, as well as decipher engine codes to be aware of any mechanical issues. You’ll know where your teenager is at any time of day, and whether the car needs servicing like an oil change.

How wireless technology is being used in the classroom:

Tablets are being used in the classroom in a variety of ways. Access to e-books, learning apps, online educational videos and the Internet can all enhance the learning experience. With reliable mobile access to the Internet on a high-speed network through U.S. Cellular, teachers and students can effectively harness the full capability of this technology…in the classroom, at home, on the bus, between practices or anywhere.

The increased use of digital textbooks means students don’t have to carry so much in their backpacks and they have access to the most up-to-date information.

Cassandra's review-  Most of the facts are family friendly, bnt there are so many adult facts that I did not like skipping reading while I was trying to share this with my family.

I guess some people do not care what children read.  I wish it was easy for someone to create a book of interesting facts without turning it into some more inappropriate, but I guess that is what sells and captures more adult interest.

I suppose it would be hard to compile facts using the internet and then choosing something witty to say about them.   Not everyone is going to like the topics picked and some eyes may roll.   I did have a moment when reading when I came across names of people and did not realize what I just said out loud to my families friends and their kids so while some giggles went up a lot of the others were really mad and found it to be shameful.

I wish there was a warning label on certain facts.    I would definitely not recommend this for any age younger than 17 to read by themselves without a censor.  The author laces in the more inappropriate things in a way that would slide past most people.   Maybe in real life he does have a sick mind and sense of humor.

At any rate the book is filled with some chapters that I just skimmed and paragraphs of writing I could care less about as again it is not going to please everyone.
