When Penny Met POTUS By Rachel Ruiz Review

From debut author Rachel Ruiz, When Penny Met POTUS is a unique and clever picture book about a young girl whose mother works for the president of the United States. Penny has heard the term POTUS over and over but doesn't know what it means - and her imagination runs wild! When she spends a day at the office with her mother, she asks a few questions, looks around, and tries to discover just who - or - what POTUS is.

You can purchase this book on Amazon.

Rachel Ruiz
Rachel Ruiz was inspired to write her first children's book, When Penny Met POTUS, after spending 2012 working for President Barack Obama on his re-election campaign. After a long day at the office, Rachel was greeted by her inquisitive 3-year-old daughter, who asked her questions like, Did you have lunch with POTUS today? Is he allergic to peanut butter? Does he like to wear red socks? The list goes on! When the author's daughter met President Obama at a campaign rally, the brief but memorable exchange between 'POTUS and the 3-year-old' was the moment the idea for this book was born.

When Rachel is not writing children's books, she is a TV writer and producer, most recently for Oprah Winfrey. She lives in her hometown of Chicago with her husband and their daughter.

Cassandra's Review-  I was surprised it was not Barack at the end, and a woman president is as imaginative as Penny.  Maybe one day.  It was great to see a woman in power and teaching a little girl that it is possible is awesome.

The book is well written and illustrated and I think the illustrations really help the story become more interesting to the kids.  I would recommend this for younger children, because the older kids think they know everything and kind of just sat around for the reading time.

Building a Healthy Child By Melina Roberts Review

Building a Healthy Child

“Building a Healthy Child”

Food Introduction Nutritional Program-A Parent's Guide to Foundational Childhood Nutrition for Lifelong Health

By Melina Roberts, N.D.

ISBN: 978-1-49178-362-7

Available in hardcover, softcover and e-book

Available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and iUniverse

Melina Roberts, N.D., has developed a revolutionary program that introduces infants and toddlers to food that helps them develop their bodies and health.

Many parents feed their children as if they're adults, without ever thinking that perhaps they should not be eating like a fully-grown adult. The truth is, however, that organs and body systems mature at different times, which means nutrition needs at different ages vary.

In this guidebook to promoting optimal health in infants and toddlers, you'll learn how to:

take advantage of the benefits of breastfeeding;

avoid foods that can cause infants problems, such as grains, wheat, soy, corn, refined white sugar, and cow's milk; introduce solids to infants and toddlers; decrease the likelihood of children developing allergies, eczema, asthma, and chronic disease.

Most parents want to give their children a head start in life, but they too often neglect the most important area-nutrition. They introduce certain foods too early and feed their children poor-quality food, promoting a disastrous cycle of bad health.

Help your children develop into intelligent, successful, and healthy adults with the insights and guidance in Building a Healthy Child.

Cassandra's Review- This is a shorter book that contains well written and easy to understand information that will help you to feed your children better.  It is more geared toward babies, but I really enjoy the recipes included.   If you are unsure of what to feed your little one this will help you to better understand more about foods and what is the best to provides at what stage of age.

Cassandra's Review-  I started and stopped writing this review, deleting and redoing it because I had so much to say, but it was kind of not really going in the direction of a review.   I guess when you're filthy rich (which I am the complete opposite of)  You need to find ways to generously give your money away.   I wish I had people like the authors in my town, to really help out.

More of the rich should consider picking up a copy and stop using their money for evil and selfish ways.   Now I had to stop and think about what I would do with extra cash (winning the lotto), and I would first finally get my family a safe vehicle so that I could actually drive again and not have to beg around for rides.  Next I would send all of the people in my family enough money to pay their debts and live a stress free life.

I would make sure my children were financially stable for their entire future if they save and spend correctly themselves.  With whatever was left over I would start to bless strangers and at that point I would have been happy to have read this book.    In the end it comes down to you as a person and what is really in your heart.

A Super Upsetting Cookbook About Sandwiches by Tyler Kord Review

Tyler Kord is chef-owner of the lauded No. 7 restaurant and No. 7 Sub shops in New York. He is also a fabulously neurotic man who directs his energy into careless ruminations on sandwich philosophy, love, self-loathing, pay phones, getting drunk in the shower, Tom Cruise, food ethics, and what it's like having  the names of two different women tattooed on your body.

Most of these ruminations also happen to be  truly excellent recipes, like roast beef with crispy shallots and smoky French dressing, or a mind-blowing mayonnaise that tastes exactly like pho. [Tyler, you never did finish writing that fried squid recipe though. You know that, right? -Ed.] This is his first book. If you buy it, you can help make sure it won't be his last.

You can purchase this book on Amazon.

Cassandra's Review- This is a totally interesting cookbook but the ingredients in most of the sandwiches I would not personally eat.  I was actually grossed by most of them.  The creativity is unique and I cannot say that they would not actually taste good, but they are just not yum factor to me.

In the back of the book there are recipes to create single foods and basic potato chips, things you would need to include in the sandwich, and they are easy to understand and look good.  I would recommend this book to anyone who is sick of eating normal food and wants to really kick it up a notch in flavor choices.  Also to those with a strong stomach and that are open to eating new foods.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

You can learn more on Goodreads.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's Review-  The book provides a picture so that your child can point or touch and become familiar with the word it associates with on the opposite page.   As I am reading this outloud, I have to stop and spend time with each picture as well as interact with my family so it slowed me down a bit, but it was excellent to help my littler ones learn.  The illustrations are great.

Wet Cell Phone Tips from U.S.Cellular #BetterMoments #spon

U.S. Cellular

Unique Parent-Child Agreement

Did you know that wet cell phones may be salvageable.?

The key to success is acting quickly, using solutions that have been proven effective, and avoiding behavior that might cause further damage. In order to show the tips, for any in-person interviews, bring a phone that has a removable battery.

Many people’s worst nightmare is seeing their trustworthy smartphone plunge into water, so they have temporary shock.

According to a recent U.S. Cellular survey, 65 percent of people would rather live without TV than without their smartphone.

The key to success is act quickly to avoid further damage.

What to do first if you drop your phone in the water:

Don’t panic, and retrieve the phone as soon as possible. Many people worry that contacts, photos and other data may be gone forever.

Their first reactions are sometimes to frantically press all the buttons, attempt to fix it with a hair dryer, or even stick it in the oven to dry. However, none of these options have been shown to work that well.

The best tips to take to save a waterlogged cell phone:

Act fast. Retrieve the smartphone as quickly as possible, taking it out of the water right away. The longer it’s submerged in liquid, the more likely it is to be irrevocably damaged.

Take out the battery. Don’t “test” the phone to see if it still works by turning it on and off because pressing the screen and buttons could push liquid farther into the device. The critical first steps are to power off the phone and take out the battery. If the phone, such as the iPhone 6s, doesn’t have a removable battery, power off the device right away to prevent a possible short circuit.

Remove any accessories. Take off any cases or covers, and remove all memory cards, headsets or other accessories. Take out the SIM card and carefully dry it off with a soft towel or cloth. The SIM card may retain data even if the waterlogged phone itself is damaged.

Wipe down the smartphone. Carefully wipe the phone with a clean, soft towel or cloth. Try to avoid getting water into the phone’s cracks, indentations, ports or other openings. If water is trapped in a crevice, use a can of compressed air to blow it out, taking care not to blow the water further inside the phone.

Use a fan. A fan can blow air across the phone's openings to help dry it out, so keep it blowing for at least a few hours.

Take the phone to your wireless carrier. If these methods don’t effectively fix the phone, don’t despair. Sometimes it can be fixed even when home remedies haven’t worked. Be honest about what happened and walk an associate or technician through the steps that were already taken to try and fix it.

What to not do:

Don’t use heat. It may be tempting to use a hair dryer, microwave or oven to dry off the phone, but the heat can quickly warp the phone's circuits and melt its delicate internal components.

Other handy tips to take to save a waterlogged cell phone:

Have a backup plan. Most people will submerge their smartphone in water at some point, so be prepared by stocking up on products that have been proven to work. Solutions like the Bheestie Bag or Dry-All are specifically designed to dry out wet mobile devices. These products can often prevent lingering moisture that can do further damage to the phone.

Hoard desiccant packets. Whenever free desiccant packages (such as silica gel) come with orders of shoes, electronics or other products, save them. Pour their contents into a container with an airtight seal. When a wet phone needs rescuing, place it in the container and the desiccant can help absorb the water.

Other things to consider before our phones get wet:

The most important step people can take, even before the phone gets wet, is to make sure important data, photos and contacts are backed up. If the phone is not recoverable, at least your important information and memories are saved.

You may want to consider insuring your device.

U.S. Cellular offers Device Protection+, which not only replaces a water-damaged phone, but also comes with tools to backup your data and protect against Malware.

Cassandra's Review-    The texture is very nice and not very slimey.  I like that is does not have an overwhelming harshness for a fragrance.  I did not have any skin irritation when applying this to my face during a treatment.  It dried without leaving any filmy extra on my skin.
