The Judgment of Beatrice by W. B. Ross Review

Beatrice had a secretive and unusual life. In death, instead of eternal rest, she became a central figure in the battle between good and evil and God's desire to change the afterlife.

More about this:

People cope with death in many different ways. Some turn to faith, while some turn away. When cardiologist W.B. Ross lost his daughter, Gayle, to acute lymphoblastic leukemia, he turned to writing and decided to dream up an entirely new idea of heaven and hell.

In Ross’ book “The Judgment of Beatrice,” he tells the story of Beatrice, a woman who led a highly unusual life, but who has an even more fantastic afterlife. In this fantasy novel, derived from Ross’ own dreams, he describes Beatrice’s post-mortem adventures and her role in the battle between good and evil.

“This is a challenge to the widely popular ideas of heaven and hell,” Ross said. “When you lose a child, you question everything. You explore every aspect of your faith and wonder what really happens to our souls after we die.”

A storyteller by nature, Ross had never written any of his tales down before his daughter died. He is a practicing cardiologist and works in the very hospital where he lost his only daughter fifteen years ago.

He treats patients in the same room that saw the end of Gayle’s battle with leukemia.

While the central character in “The Judgment of Beatrice” battles demons of her own, her story is one that was created from the hope of more beyond this world.

“This story is a completely new version of what takes place in the afterlife,” Ross said. “In a way, I gave Beatrice a life after death, unlike any other, to give myself hope for more for my daughter.”

About the author

W. B. Ross has two living children and had a daughter who died of leukemia at the age of eighteen. He has been happily married for over forty years.

Cassandra's review-  To go into a new realm of possibility and creativity, while bringing forth the unknown in a way that only this author can develop, made this book a real twist to read.   It has so many elements of character and emotion that within the first couple of chapters I was decidedly not going to put it down until the end.

Missing Frames: Memoir of a Woman Living with Hidden Disabilities by Scooter Review

Hidden disabilities are real. Just ask Scooter, survivor of two traumatic brain injuries-one from a 1976 car accident and the other related to a 2009 fall. Limited cognitively, Scooter suffers from memory loss and chronic pain.

Still, Scooter is living proof that after a sudden life change, it truly is possible to overcome adversity, find joy and forgiveness, and become a stronger person.
In her inspirational narrative, Scooter shares a glimpse into the events before, during, and after her second life-changing injury as she attempted to find her way back from the darkness of amnesia and into the light of healing.

As she battled physical discomfort and psychological challenges that involved all aspects of perception, thinking, reasoning, and memory, Scooter details how she relied on an archangel physician to provide the tether to reality and much-needed structure while she bravely battled many obstacles to reclaim and rebuild her life as an intelligent and resilient single mother.

Missing Frames shares the true story of one woman's journey through unseen health challenges as she finds peace and strength amid pain and suffering and raises awareness about invisible disabilities.

About the author

Scooter is an invisibly disabled woman who suffered two traumatic brain injuries – one in 1976 and the other in 2009. Today she continues to deliberately work toward achieving a healthy, well-balanced quality of life. This is her first book.

Cassandra's review-  I was so impressed that the author was able to pull together this true story with a limited memory.  It must have been and is a challenge to face everyday, but I am so glad that she is committed to her health and recovery.

Sharing her story in a way that is so open, honest and from the heart makes this read a really unique one.   I could not imagine having to go through the same situations and this book drew me into Scooter's story until the very end.  Living with a disability no one can see, how would you handle that?  It really makes you think.

Remember to Forget (Remember to Forget #1) by Ashley Royer Review

26263629

In Remember to Forget from Watty Award-winning author Ashley Royer, Levi has refused to speak since the tragic death of his girlfriend, Delia, and can't seem to come out of his depression and hindering self-doubt. Desperate to make some positive change in Levi’s life, his mother sends him to live with his father in Maine.

Though the idea of moving from Australia to America seems completely daunting, Levi passively accepts his fate, but once he lands faces personal struggles and self-doubt at the same time he and his dad battle through resentment and misunderstanding. And then, while at therapy, Levi meets Delilah, a girl who eerily reminds him of someone he lost.

Cassandra's Review- A good story in a twist of thoughts, combined with settings that prove the need, to continue on till the end.  I found the author to write beyond her years and at only 17 years old I was really impressed with the connections made and storyline as well as her ability to crank out such a long book.  This is a story that I needed to read a little deeper before really getting into it, but once I did it proved to be worth my time.  As far as being a teen fiction, this would pass in my home as clean with mild deeper emotional situations.

Running On Red Dog Road And Other Perils Of An Appalachian Childhood By Drema Hall Berkheimer Review

Running on Red Dog Road: And Other Perils of an Appalachian Childhood

“Mining companies piled trash coal in a slag heap and set it ablaze. The coal burned up, but the slate didn’t. The heat turned it rose and orange and lavender. The dirt road I lived on was paved with that sharp-edged rock. We called it red dog. Grandma told me, Don’t you go running on that red dog road. But I do.”

Gypsies, faith-healers, moonshiners, and snake handlers weave through Drema’s childhood in 1940s Appalachia after her father is killed in the coal mines, her mother goes off to work as a Rosie the Riveter, and she is left in the care of devout Pentecostal grandparents. What follows is a spitfire of a memoir that reads like a novel with intrigue, sweeping emotion, and indisputable charm. Drema’s coming of age is colored by tent revivals with Grandpa, poetry-writing hobos, and traveling carnivals, and through it all, she serves witness to a multi-generational family of saints and sinners whose lives defy the stereotypes. Just as she defies her own.

Running On Red Dog Road is proof that truth is stranger than fiction, especially when it comes to life and faith in an Appalachian childhood.

None Like Him By Jen Wilkin Review and GIVEAWAY #NoneLikeHim, #JenWilkin #FlyBy

God is self-existent, self-sufficient, eternal, immutable, omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, sovereign, infinite, and incomprehensible.

We're not.

And that's a good thing.

Our limitations are by design. We were never meant to be God. But at the root of every sin is our rebellious desire to possess attributes that belong to God alone.

Calling us to embrace our limits as a means of glorifying God's limitless power, Jen Wilkin invites us to celebrate the freedom that comes when we rest in letting God be God.

Cassandra's Review-  The book is very complex and has so much put into it, that I will have to re read it a few times to really get all of the goodness within.  The book is one of the more difficult books to read through, not because it is longer in pages, but very long winded and detailed.

I think that in order to get the most from this reading experience, you need to already have a strong faith and a willingness to learn the authors views.  I feel that an adult or older teen would get the topic and recommend this book for that age range.

Cassandra's review-  A great taste and easy to brew.  If you have a craving for this flavor but either do not own or refuse to buy a k-cup brewer, you can add 2 or 3 of these cups into a regular coffee pot and they will brew just as good.    The flavor is blended with the coffee taste but does not overpower it.    I think the flavor would be excellent as a hot chocolate too!

Cassandra's review-  Have you ever wondered how you sleep?  Once I was tested for sleep apnea and it was grueling spending the night in the hospital with wires and pads stuck to my head and hair.
I do not think the test was 100% accurate either because who could sleep like that and also with one of my kids in the room as well.  It was a really bad experience and I could not sleep properly.  When I was sent this product I was super excited because it looked simple and easy to use.

The is just the device, so your are going to need something to run the app on.  The whole process if fairly simple and the monitor is barely noticeable.   The band is not thick and does not move around during sleep.   It fits right under a standard sheet.

You get an amazing advantage, when you are able to see how you sleep and can also benefit greatly, so while this is in no way a medical device now will it stop sudden death, it can help to catch the problem.  If you have a heart  pacemaker you can not use this at all.

Cassandra's Review--  This is the second time my family has had the pleasure of partnering with CircleBranch and I was super excited because the meat and sauces are amazing~!    This time I was able to try the pork chops, Boston butt, hot dogs, bacon and two new sauces.

While I will not cook up all the meat at one time (so I can have more meals for my family!)  they are superb quality and look fresh right from the package.

The hot dogs were easy to cook and the taste was so much better then I thought a hot dog would taste.   The sauces are are going to make two lucky winners very happy because the blends are well thought out and made to satisfy the chutney and BBQ experience.
