Operation Smile and Campus Book Rentals #ad

Operation Smile is a charity organization for children – donate non profit

WHO WE ARE: INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CHARITY

Operation Smile is an international children's medical charity that performs safe, effective cleft lip and cleft palate surgery, and delivers postoperative and ongoing medical therapies to children in low and middle income countries.

At Operation Smile, we're more than a charity. We're a mobilized force of international medical professionals and caring hearts. Operation Smile is a pioneer in advocating for the importance of safe surgery in resource poor environments and is the largest surgical charity of its kind, leading research into the causes of cleft lip and cleft palate, and its prevention, treatment and eradication.

Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft. A child with a cleft has twice the odds of dying before their first birthday. Children with cleft conditions who survive may have difficulty eating, speaking, hearing or breathing properly. In some places, they are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can't afford the surgeries they need to live a productive life.

Every child deserves access to safe, quality surgical care. Every child deserves a future filled with hope.

That's where we come in as the largest volunteer-based children's medical charity providing free cleft surgeries. Since 1982, Operation Smile — through the help of dedicated medical volunteers — has provided 220,000 free surgical procedures for children and young adults. Our work creates a lasting global impact. We train local medical professionals in developing countries and strengthen healthcare systems so more children in some of the poorest areas in the world can be treated.

As one of the most prominent charities for children in the world, we work in over 60 countries to heal children’s smiles and bring hope for a better future. Together, we are saving children’s lives.

Here is the best part.   There is a place called campusbookrentals.com  and they  donate to Operation Smile with each textbook rented.

Let me tell you a little about CampusBookRental.

RENTING TEXTBOOKS
Over one million students across nearly 6,000 campuses rent their textbooks from CampusBookRentals. That’s quite an endorsement from a highly-educated demographic! It’s well known that textbooks lose their value by the end of a class course, making it difficult, if not impossible, to recoup your purchasing costs with buyback. Renting guarantees you get your money’s worth, upfront, from college tomes you will never use again. Plus, renting is so easy. No more trips to the bookstore. CBR offers every title—in new or gently-used condition—online. With one quick search, you’ll be ready for classes. So, join your peers and make your college life a little bit easier (and wealthier).

Some perks are:
-save 40-90% off of bookstore prices
-free shipping both ways
-can highlight in the textbooks
-flexible renting periods

I was compensated for this post.

A Story of Faith and Healing from Helo Matzelle’s ‘Halo Found Hope’ (Plus a Kindle Giveaway)

Halo Found Hope

{MORE ABOUT HALO FOUND HOPE}

Halo Found Hope (December 2014)

Machines beeping, the blur of medical staff running, a crash cart whizzing into an ICU room—was there any hope?

A young woman lay, packed in ice, as doctors attempted to somehow stop the swelling in her brain that threatened to take her life… and her family waited.

Six days turned into eight weeks. She awoke to discover that she was not the same. She saw two of everything, couldn’t feel half of her face, couldn’t hear from one ear, and could not speak. She couldn’t even tell anyone that she felt hopeless… or could she?

Halo Found Hope is the story of a beautiful, busy wife, and mother of three whose life changes instantly with the diagnosis of a rare brain tumor. An exceptional ENT, a brilliant neurosurgeon and a dedicated medical team tackle the tumor, setting off a series of unbelievable miracles. Helo’s story is not one of survival, or of salvaging a life through a broken body. It is not about endurance through pain, but victory because of it. While the family heard her silence, God heard her prayer. Helo’s story is simply this: Wherever you are and whatever you are going through, God is right there. He doesn’t need to be recognized by you, to be there for you. He can replace fear with courage and discouragement with determination, if you let Him. Helo did, and that is how she found hope.

The Adventures of Pajama Girl Review and Giveaway

A cute, illustrated story about a girl's imagination and her magical pajamas. In this adventure, Ellie's cupcake pajamas pave the way for she and her Sis to take a journey to a land filled with all kinds of sweet treats. Their journey quickly turns into an adventure to help the Cupcake Queen find the missing sprinkles needed for her coronation ceremony. In searching for the missing sprinkles, Ellie and Sis uncover a life lesson that is important for every child to learn.

Cassandra's Review-  The book is made for children but most adults need to read it as well.  Sometimes we forget what we teach our kids.  Children learn by example and I love when a book can cover topics that can help everybody and still do so in a way that is entertaining for the child and easy for them to understand, I especially like how greed is addressed.

Jesus Sees Us Christian Doll and Lesson Book Review

Introduce your child to Jesus with the Jesus Sees Us doll and Christian lesson book
Soft body doll and hard covered book for children 2+
Christian family values and faith based message of Jesus for children
Beautifully illustrated book with Christian lessons to engage children
Perfect gift for Baptism & Christening, Eucharist & First Holy Communion

How do you introduce your child to Jesus?

Imagine your children took the same interest and wonder in Jesus and the Christian message as they did in princesses, fairies, and elves… Jesus Sees Us is a packaged Jesus Christ doll that has the same comforting power as a child’s favorite toy or blanket, but is rooted in lessons that last a lifetime. Children respond to the comfort of tangible items when they are young, so why not make that item Jesus and the comfort He gives to ignite their faith? The accompanying book is a tool to assist you in engaging your child and starting the conversation about Jesus’ teachings.

By the time a child turns three years old, he or she already has the capability to relate to Jesus. Children can understand that, like them, Jesus was a baby with parents who loved Him. They can understand that Jesus grew up to be a man who loved everyone and taught people to do the same. Children become excited and inquisitive when they can master these facts, ultimately making them more open to deeper conversations and ideas about faith.
The Jesus Sees Us doll is an integral part of fostering your child’s initial introduction to Jesus. Even though we talk to our children about Jesus or take them to Sunday services, they are not always able to understand the importance of the Christian message. Jesus Sees Us is a tool that makes Jesus, His teachings, and the concept of faith both relatable and positive to young children by introducing Him as the loving and forgiving presence in our lives. The doll becomes the tangible connection to the stories and lessons in the book. He is the touchable source of comfort that a child can relate to. The Jesus Sees Us doll has a soft body and a warm, welcoming face. His arms and hands are open, inviting your child to hold him, engage with him, and pray with him. The Jesus Sees Us doll allows your child to “play out” the valuable and timeless lessons of the Bible.

Cassandra's review- The doll and book are a great pair and gift for your child.  One of the younger children said that the doll looked a bit scary, but they are young.  I read this for a group of homeschool children and at the end I let everyone put their name in a hat and one very lucky family got blessed.  It was fun to be able to share with the kids and see how excited and interested they were.  The book is very easy to read and not super long.   The doll is easy to hold and soft in case you have a child that likes to hug.

Piper’s Perfumery Fragrances Review

Delicate French Vanilla
Just like the look and feel of classic French lace, this demure fragrance evokes romance and delights the senses. With top notes of Sweet Orange and Warm Vanilla, Delicate French Vanilla opens with a sweet and charming scent. Mid-notes of Vanilla Orchid and Brown Sugar create a luxuriant fragrance that ends with dry notes of Sweet Amber, Cedar Wood and Creamy Musk.

Cassandra's Review-  The fragrance is definitely unique and one of a kind.  It stays on the skin strongly even after drying.  It can wash off well with soap and water.  I did not have any skin irritations or breakouts.   The bottle is a great pump spray.

You can find this and other scents at Walmart.

The Soup Club Cookbook: Feed Your Friends, Feed Your Family, Feed Yourself Review

Food-sharing is the hot new thing in the "getting dinner on the table" conversation, and in The Soup Club Cookbook, four friends share not only their formula for starting a soup club--which gives you at least three meals every month when you don't have to worry about dinner--but also 150 fantastic recipes for soups and sides and storing tips for stretching those meals across the week.

The Soup Club began when four friends (who, between them, have four husbands and ten hungry kids and several jobs) realized that they didn't actually have to cook at home every night to take pleasure in a home-cooked meal. They simply had to join forces and share meals, even if they weren't actually eating them together. Caroline, Courtney, Julie, and Tina happen to be neighbors, but a soup club is for anyone: colleagues, a group of workout buddies, a book club. All you need are a few people who simply want to have more home-cooked food in their lives.

In a soup club each person takes a turn making soup--and sometimes other dishes for sides or for when everyone needs a break from soup, so if a club has four people, in a month each person will have dinner delivered three times--a dish that can start as a full meal and stretch into more dinners or lunches or even morph into a sauce. Soup is forgiving, versatile, and perfect for sharing; it can be spiced to taste, topped elaborately or not at all, and dressed up or down. It travels well and reheats beautifully.  The Soup Club Cookbook also has dozens of tips for cooking in quantity and for tailoring soup to individual tastes and needs. Here, too, are simple guidelines for starting your own soup club, anecdotes, and a few cautionary tales  that will inspire anyone to share food and eat well.

Recipes include quick and easies, classics, twist on favorites, and dozens of flavor-rich new crowd pleasers:

   * Carrot Coconut and Chicken Chili,
   * Senegalese Peanut Soup
   * Faux Ramen
   * Red Lentil Curry Soup
   * Potato Cheddar Soup
   * Sun Dried Tomato Soup
   * Jeweled Rice Salad
   * Cheddar Cornbread,
   * Summer Corn Hash
   * Soy Simmered Chicken Wings

I received a complimentary copy from Blogging for Books.

Cassandra's  Review- This is a cookbook  that I really enjoy. It is easy to understand and has everything categorized for easy viewing. The pictures are very inviting.   The recipes do not include super expensive groceries and some you may even already have on hand.  You can also make a lot for a huge family get together or to save for a few nights.

LoSalt® Review

USA tub
Introducing LoSalt
LoSalt is the leading reduced sodium salt which you can find at your local store in 12.35oz containers.

However you use salt, LoSalt is a great route to reducing the sodium in your diet.

You can use it in the same way you would use regular salt, and it will have the same salty taste.

As with regular salt it should be used sparingly in cooking and baking. Taste food at the table before seasoning and you may gradually be able to avoid adding it altogether.

Find out where to buy your LoSalt products.

Original LoSalt is made by our unique blending method, combining sodium chloride with potassium chloride to create a great tasting, healthier alternative to regular salts. With only one third of the sodium content of regular salt, it's also a great way to lower your sodium intake which can help maintain a healthy blood pressure.

33.3% (max.) sodium chloride
anti-caking agent

Iodized LoSalt has all the great features of our original LoSalt product, but with added iodine, which can help to maintain healthy levels of this important mineral in the body. Ensuring enough iodine in your diet can help maintain brain and thyroid functionality, among other benefits.

I received complimentary product.

LoSalt® is the U.K.’s leading healthy, low-sodium alternative to salt sold worldwide and in more than 4,500 stores in the U.S., including national chains such as Kroger, Whole Foods Market and Safeway as well as natural food stores and independents. LoSalt has 66 percent less sodium that regular table, sea and rock salts, but tastes just like regular salt. A great source of potassium, LoSalt is a natural product. It is a product of Klinge Foods Ltd., based in East Kilbride, Scotland just south of Glasgow. For more information, please visit their website http://www.losalt.com/, become a fan at https://www.facebook.com/losalt and follow them at https://twitter.com/LoSalt.

Cassandra's Review-  The salt does not taste any different and is a bit better for you.  The granules are a nice size and you can use this as you would regular salt. One container will last a bit if you use it sparingly.  I like that the container itself has a great top that gives you the option to pour or shake right from it, without having to but a salt shaker.

Numbers Game by Rebecca Rode Book Blast $50 Amazon Gift Card or Paypal Cash Giveaway

  Numbers GameNumbers Game by Rebecca Rode Treena is nervous for Rating Day. A single number will brand her forever—a valuable citizen, or a pathetic waste of space. Her top-Rated boyfriend is confident their scores will coincide so they can attend the academy together. But when the big day arrives, her true number shocks everyone. To get her life—and boyfriend—back, she must go undercover and expose a military spy. Doesn’t sound too hard, except that someone wants her dead. And then there’s Vance, the mysterious soldier with a haunted past and beautiful brown eyes. Together, they discover a dark numbers conspiracy, one that shatters the nation’s future. Treena must join up with Vance if she is to survive the dangerous game of numbers—and the terrible war that rages within her heart.
Excerpt
“Your Rating is wrong,” Vance said. “Their precious Rating system says absolutely nothing about you and what you’re capable of.” I shook my head. “So far, everything I’ve done has proven my number absolutely correct.” “Treena.” His tone softened. “I don’t know why you that happened to you. But I do know one thing.” He stopped on the step below me, and I whirled to face him. We were the same height now, and his expression was fierce. “You are the most loyal, the most determined, and the most fascinating girl I’ve ever met. No number could ever describe you.” The deadness inside cracked, and the pain came flooding back. I felt like a five-year-old again. Falling, grasping for a handhold, for something to save me. “It doesn’t matter now. Tali's dead.” He gave me a long look. Then he sat down, right on the steps, easing me down next to him. I lay my head on his shoulder and let him pull me close. The warmth of his embrace felt completely and utterly right. For a long moment, I allowed myself to forget about the past few days. There was no empress, no punishment mode, and no mission. There was just us. The world was cool and dark, and his touch sent my heart pumping as if it had just awakened from hibernation. “Dying isn't the worst thing to happen to someone,” he continued thoughtfully. “Anyone coward can die. The hardest thing is being left behind, trying to make sense of a world without them.” I tilted my head back and allowed myself to look up into Vance’s eyes. They were dark, pulling, as if absorbing all the light that entered, saving it for some future purpose. His eyebrows were choppy, untrimmed, and his lips chapped. But somehow, it worked. It was simply . . . him. No surgeries, no tallies of volunteer hours and checklists. Vance just took life one day at a time, keeping his family safe, trying to put the pieces of himself back together. I could see it, the pain in his heart. It was something we shared now. A warm feeling spread through my chest until I thought it would burst. This was who he really was. The tumultuous battle within him seemed to have trickled away, leaving one gallant, vulnerable boy. A boy who was looking at me as if I were something precious—who looked at me, instead of at my Rating. His eyes flitted between mine, his confidence replaced with uncertainty. “It feels good to finally choose sides, doesn’t it?” “Whose side are you on, then?” His chin was just above mine, and he lowered it until our eyes were level. Then his hand tilted my chin upward toward his. His fingers brushed the side of my face, cradling it gently in his firm hand. I felt his breath on my face, felt the battle within him as well as I felt it in myself. But something pulled me toward him. “Yours,” he said. He closed the distance between us, slowly, then paused. And our lips met.
