The Israeli Solution by Caroline B. Glick Review

Read Chapter One

A manifesto that exposes the flaws in the two-state policy of the United States toward Israel and the Palestinians and offers a direct and powerful call for Israeli sovereignty in the region.

The reigning consensus in elite and academic circles is that the United States must seek to resolve the Palestinians' conflict with Israel by implementing the so-called two-state solution. Establishing a Palestinian state, so the thinking goes, would be a panacea for all the region’s ills. It would end the Arab world’s conflict with Israel, because the reason the Arab world is anti-Israel is that there is no Palestinian state. It would also nearly erase the principal cause of the violent extremism in the rest of the Middle East.

In a time when American politics are marked by partisan gridlock, the two-state solution stands out for its ability to attract supporters from both sides of the ideological divide. But the great irony is that it is one of the most irrational and failed policies the United States has ever adopted.

Between 1970 and 2013, the United States presented nine different peace plans for Israel and the Palestinians, and for the past twenty years, the two state solution has been the centerpiece of U.S. Middle East policy. But despite this laser focus, American efforts to implement a two-state peace deal have failed—and with each new attempt, the Middle East has become less stable, more violent, more radicalized, and more inimical to democratic values and interests.

In The Israeli Solution, Caroline Glick, senior contributing editor to the Jerusalem Post, examines the history and misconceptions behind the two-state policy, most notably:

- The huge errors made in counting the actual numbers of Jews and Arabs in the region. The 1997 Palestinian Census, upon which most two-state policy is based, wildly exaggerated the numbers of Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza.

- Neglect of the long history of Palestinian Antisemitism, refusal to negotiate in good faith, terrorism, and denial of Israel’s right to exist.

- Disregard for Israel’s stronger claims to territorial sovereignty under international law, as well as the long history of Jewish presence in the region.

- Indifference to polling data that shows the Palestinian people admire Israeli society and governance. Despite a half-century of domestic and international terrorism, antisemitism, and military attacks from regional neighbors who reject its right to exist, Israel has thrived as the Middle East’s lone democracy.

After a century spent chasing a two-state policy that hasn't brought the Israelis and Palestinians any closer to peace, The Israeli Solution offers an alternative path to stability in the Middle East based on Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria.

Cassandra's Review- Strategically written and executed this book is an amazing read.  The author got her point across and opened some doors for conversations to take place. As an adult read or for younger adults this book is perfect in the sense that it will provide a jumping point for you to go however way you decide on the topic.

The Garden Gate- The Garden Gate Series: Threshold Series By Christa J. Kinde Review

The Garden Gate is the fourth book in the Threshold series.

The Pomeroys pull together in the aftermath of the storm that shook West Edinton---and Prissie's faith---to its very foundations. Letting go proves difficult, and holding on takes all of her courage. With the encouragement of a brother who's in on her secret, Prissie finds her feet. With the help of the bane who's now a brother, she takes a stand. As spring comes to the orchard, a cryptic remark from Abner hints at West Edinton's long-kept secret. A beloved aunt returns from overseas. A faded angel takes up residence atop the Pomeroys' refrigerator. A treasured friend must say goodbye. While ranks of the Faithful rally to defend what's most precious, Prissie discovers that angels aren't the only ones who are Sent.

About the author:
Christa Kinde
Behind the scenes, I'm a cheerful homebody whose many talents include dish-washing, laundry-sorting, and the weaving polysyllabic words into everyday conversation. First to know, last to tell, happy to try, and always true. A plotter and a plodder, a dabbler and a devotee. Weaknesses include bright colors, crazy socks, and alliteration. More to the point, I spend my days planning studies, plotting stories, and putting my nose to the proverbial grindstone ... because as much as I loves writing, it's work. Finding the perfect word, turning a phrase so it sparkles, giving a plot just a bit of a twist - they're worth every iota of effort. I'm delighted to have discovered what I want to do when I grow up!

Cassandra's Review-  Many different factors will make or break this series. I would like to point out the this is the only book I have read and of course my luck it is the last one in the series which makes it almost pointless to go back and attempt the others.  As a standalone it is not easy to follow and sadly some of the angels do not seem believable to me and I know that sounds like a conundrum of sorts. I do not know if my theory or feelings of what is or is not part of angel related activities would be put to good use in the review of this book,  as use of modern technology and a little bit harsh language is not a big sell for me.  As I close I want to remind you my reader family to always read a book I review for yourself as we will never have the same outcome.

The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book  through Book Look Bloggers.

Zero Six Bravo by Damien Lewis Review

Zero 6 Bravo Cover
They were branded as cowards and accused of being the British Special Forces Squadron that ran away from the Iraqis. But nothing could be further from the truth. Finally, in Zero Six Bravo, the epic story of sixty Special Forces warriors can be told. In March 2003 M Squadron - an SBS unit with SAS embeds - was sent 1,000 kilometers behind enemy lines on a true mission impossible – to take the surrender of the 100,000-strong Iraqi Army 5 th Corps.

From the very start their tasking earned the nickname ‘Operation No Return.’ Caught in a ferocious ambush by thousands of die-hard fanatics from Saddam Hussein’s Fedayeen, plus the awesome firepower of the 5 th Corp’s heavy armor, and with eight of their vehicles bogged in Iraqi swamps, M Squadron launched a desperate bid to escape, inflicting massive damage on their enemies. Running low on fuel and ammunition, outnumbered, outmaneuvered and outgunned, and with their few surviving Land Rovers shot to shreds, the elite operators destroyed sensitive kit and prepared for death or capture as the Iraqis closed their deadly trap.

Zero Six Bravo recounts in vivid and compelling detail the most desperate battle fought by British and allied Special Forces trapped behind enemy lines since World War Two. It is a classic account of elite soldiering that ranks with Bravo Two Zero and the very greatest Special Forces missions of our time.

Damien and Lara

Damien Lewis became an author largely by accident, when a British publisher asked him if he'd be willing to turn a TV documentary he was working on into a book. That film was shot in the Sudan war zone, and told the story of how Arab tribes seized black African slaves in horrific slave raids. Lewis had been to the Sudan war zone dozens of times over the past decade, reporting on that conflict for the BBC, Channel 4 and US and European broadcasters.

His slavery documentary told the story of a young girl from the Nuba tribe, seized in a raid and sold into slavery in Khartoum, Sudan's capital city, and of her epic escape. The publisher asked Lewis if the Nuba girl would be willing to write her life story as a book, with his help as co-author. The book that they co-wrote was called 'Slave', and it was published to great acclaim, becoming a number one bestseller and being translated into some 30 lanc guages worldwide. It won several awards and has been made into a feature film.

Over the preceding fifteen years Lewis had reported from many war, conflict and disaster zones – including Sudan, Sierra Leone, Eritrea, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Iraq, Syria, Burma, Afghanistan and the Balkans (see Author's Gallery). He (and his film crew) traveled into such areas with aid workers, the British or allied military, UN forces or local military groups, or very much under their own steam. He reported on the horror and human impact of war, as well as the drama of conflict itself. Often, he worked alone. Often, he filmed his own material over extended periods of time living in the war or conflict zone.

During a decade spent reporting from around the world Lewis lived in deserts, rainforests, jungles and chaotic third world cities. In his work and travels he met and interviewed people smugglers, diamond miners, Catholic priests 'gone native', desert nomads, un-contacted tribes, aid workers, bush pilots, arms dealers, genocidal leaders, peacekeepers, game wardens, slum kids, world presidents, heroin traffickers, rebel warlords, child prostitutes, Islamist terrorists, Hindu holy men, mercenaries, bush doctors, soldiers, commanders and spies. He was injured, and was hospitalised with bizarre tropical diseases – including flesh-eating bacteria, worms that burrow through the skin and septicemia – but survived all that and continued to report.

It was only natural that having seen so much of global conflict he would be drawn to stories of war, terrorism, espionage and the often dark causes behind such conflicts when he started writing books. Having written a number of true stories, in 2006 he was chosen as one of the 'nation's 20 favourite authors' and wrote his first fiction, Desert Claw, for the British Government's Quick Read initiative. Desert Claw tells of a group of ex-Special Forces soldiers sent into Iraq to retrieve a looted Van Gogh painting, with a savage twist to the tale. That fiction was followed up by Cobra Gold, an equally compelling tale of global drama and intrigue and shadowy betrayal.

Damien Lewis's work, books and films have won the Index on Censorship (UK), CECRA (Spain), Project Censored (US), Commonwealth Relations (UK), Discovery-NHK BANFF (Canada), Rory Peck (UK), BBC One World (UK), BBC-WWF Wildscreen (UK), International Peace Prize (US), Elle Magazine Grande Prix (US), Victor Gollanz (Germany), and BBC One World (UK) Awards. He is a Fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

Cassandra's Review-  Mixed feelings about this book flow through me because I know that the author did not touch certain points, but I can only assume did so the get the point he was trying to make to hit home with everyone who reads his exquisite writing.  I felt at a difference with some of my emotions and mt heart went out immediately to those that fought suffered and survived, but also to those the perished. A great author told me that war is never pretty and I am just so thankful for the people who choose to fight for us. I would consider looking into other works by this author. I would also not let my younger children near this book.

SipSnap Kickstarter campaign #ad

The inventors of SipSnap share a refreshing success story while continuing to position their universal ‘one size fits all’ drink lid that converts any drinking glass into a spill-proof kids cup. The excitement is still growing and the designers of SipSnap are ready to reach even higher!

Michelle Ivankovic and Sativa Turner raised more than $28,000 in their first 48 hours and are now setting their sights on a higher stretch goal of $90,000 while meeting specific requests of consumers who have written to them.

Their successful Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign currently has raised $66,000. Michelle and Sativa are now reaching out to give back to their supporters with extra offerings if they reach their new goal within the remaining days of the campaign.

Moms and Dads across the country showed tremendous support reaching out to the design duo to help them solve an additional challenge of also wanting healthy, kid-safe sipping......STRAWS to go with their SipSnap. Over the first half of the campaign numerous moms wrote to the designers to ask for a safe BPA, phthalate free, and dishwasher safe drinking straw. Wanting to meet the demands of their more than 1,000 enthusiastic supporters, the SipSnap team will now offer a free stainless steel drinking straw with every SipSnap KID set. In addition to straws, requests have also been made for extra carrying cases. All SipSnap TOT sets will come with 2 cases, if they reach their goal of $90,000. They will be launching with stretch goals on Kickstarter today. Link:

SipSnap is the universal drinking lid that gives any cup in your cupboard sippy cup potential. It is made up of 100% food safe silicone, and allows consumers to reduce waste by stretching the product around their existing cups. This eco-friendly feature also gives parents more control over what kind of material their kids drink from. SipSnap comes in two versions. SipSnap TOT has a durable, chew-resistant drinking spout for toddlers and SipSnap KID has a hole that can fit any size straw for bigger kids.

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

This is from the company:

Usually when you hear the word Matcha, you automatically think about Green Tea. Well, we have put a spin on the Matcha name and technique with our White Matcha. White Matcha is made in exactly the same way as regular Green Tea Matcha is made: stone ground to a fine powder. But we have done it with White Tea. Why would we offer you a White Matcha? Whether you like Green Tea, Black Tea, White Tea or any other kind of tea, we want you to experience the Matcha in different flavors.
What does stone grinding do for tea leaves? It is quite simple. This is special process that does not take away from the flavor or take away any of the health benefits of original tea leaves. Basically with the stone grinding process, you are getting the highest quality tea in its purest form outside of just having straight from the tea tree. It is simple and straightforward, leaving tea leaves with tons of flavor and amazing healthful qualities.
White Tea has some wonderful qualities to help maintain good health. In essence, White Matcha contains those same qualities with a purer taste. The health benefits of White Matcha include:
High antioxidant count to kill free radicals in the blood stream
Reduces the risk of certain types of cancer
Decreases fine lines and wrinkles in the skin
Helps maintain a beautiful complexion
Has only one percent (1%) caffeine content of coffee

As you can see, there are many great qualities of White Matcha that will help you everyday. What is the flavor of amazing White Matcha? Its flavor is quite mild with a vague natural sweetness. It is lightly malty and does not have a grassy taste like some teas do. White Tea is delicate with a slight perfume-like taste.
White Matcha is a great tea and our White Matcha is of the best quality and is one of the most competitively priced. We offer many varieties of Matcha Tea for you to enjoy. Try us today and you will not go back to any of the other tea companies again.

Words are powerful. Thus, the saying that words are mightier than the sword. Words can uplift and encourage or demean and destroy. Words can paint pictures in our minds, be they good or bad. Words have the ability to change people and to leave lasting impressions. We tend to remember what someone said far longer than what someone did. Words stick with us.

Some of us use our words to destroy. Hateful, ugly words have led to fear, prejudice, and even holocausts. Some of us use our words to build. Kind, beautiful words have led to faith, compassion, and courage. We each have the opportunity to use words in negative and positive ways, and it's up to us to decide how we will use our words.

I have always loved words. I like to feel them on my tongue when I say them over and over again. As a novelist, I like to string them together to make sentences, paragraphs, and stories to make my art. How I use my words determines the kind of art I make.

As a mother of ten children, I am acutely aware of all the choices my kids have when it comes to reading. Some authors choose to create stories that are beautiful and moving. Others choose to create stories that are degrading. While writing "clean" stories is not the most popular route, it is the route that I choose. When I write a story, my gauge is always whether or not I would be happy to have my children read what I've written.

I believe there is a market for clean reads. I believe that there are readers who want to experience a powerful story or simply want to escape for a few hours in a world that is free from profanity, sex scenes, and heavy violence. I believe that deeply moving stories as well as fun, light stories, and everywhere in between, can be told with the same complexity and interest as those littered with foul words and explicit images.

In the end, I have to be true to myself, and my art should reflect that. Words have power, and I need to be responsible for how I use my words to create my stories.
