Janie Caswell, a businesswoman, is pregnant and finds out she’s having a girl and has a panic attack on the day of a big presentation at work. She is married to David and unsure if she can parent a daughter because she doesn’t relate to girls.
Janie’s competition at work pitches a line of dolls intended to help girls through issues of childhood. Janie counters with a line of interactive computer games intended to empower girls.
After having Samantha, Janie leaves the hospital to immediately go to work and Gabe is her cab driver. He tries to tell her the truth but she doesn’t believe it.
Janie gets into a car accident and wakes up six years later and has no memory of the accident.
David moved to Southport to be with Janie’s dad, Buck, after the accident. Her daughter runs away when Janie first wakes up. Janie doubts herself and her ability to be there for her daughter.
Janie becomes jealous when she realizes that David has a female friend that helped him and Sam.
Janie is focused on the past and David wants to focus on the future.
Janie is hurt and confused about what her role is after so many years away. She is fearful of not being in control and being sidelined in her own family.
Janie gets an opportunity to pitch another game to her former employer, West Tech, when she runs into Gabe on the street. Janie finally listens to what he tells her and she turns to prayer to decide whether to attend the pitch or not.
When she decides to skip a meeting in order to return in time for Sam’s birthday, Gabe and God send her back to the beginning so she can set her priorities straight.
