Smartphone Photography with U.S. Cellular #BetterMoments

U.S. Cellular

iPhone Screenshot 2

A recent survey shows increased use of built-in cameras by smartphone owners on a daily and monthly basis as well as directly sharing those images with friends and through social media.

Smartphone devices, such as Samsung Galaxy, have high resolution cameras that can shoot high quality images that rival those of expensive Digital SLRs.

Not only are families using cameras on their phones and tablets to capture and reflect on special moments in their lives, but they’re also using these devices to enhance the time they spend together and create new memories.

U.S. Cellular hosts monthly Device Workshops at locations across the country, and anyone is welcome to attend to learn how to make the most out of their individual mobile device to enhance everyday life.

How smartphone users are using the camera features of their devices:

U.S. Cellular’s recent survey revealed that four out of five smartphone owners are taking advantage of the quality and convenience of cell phone cameras and two out of three say they’re sharing those photos through email and social media.

Mobile technology really has changed the way people communicate and stay connected, and now it’s helping people capture all of life’s best moments and easily share them with their loved ones.

According to the survey of U.S. Cellular customers, nine out of 10 cell phone owners say they have taken photos and videos with their phones.

More than 60 percent of cell phone owners polled say they take photos or video at least daily or once a week, and 81 percent at least once a week…and 65oercent of smartphone owners use their phones for social media…and that number continues to increase.

The findings really underscore just how mainstream smartphone cameras have become. Users love their convenience as well as the ability to instantly share what goes on in their daily lives.

Tips to keep in mind when using their camera phone:

With so many people relying on their smartphone cameras, U.S. Cellular has several tips to help make sure that all those photos are quality images that will look great.

Check the Lens: A dirty lens will cause parts of the picture to be out of focus. Use a clean, soft cloth to wipe away any dirt or lint from the lens on the back of the camera as well as on the front (for selfies).

Light Your Subject Well: The better lit your subject is the clearer your image is likely to be: this is just as true with a mobile device as with an expensive camera. Shoot in the sun if you can and move around to get the best light on your subject.

Hold Steady: The steadier your camera phone is when taking your shot, the clearer your image will be.
Magnifier & Microscope [Cozy]- screenshot thumbnail
Use a small tripod or lean your device against a solid object when taking shots, especially taking into account that in low light situations ‘shutter lag’ (the time between when you press the shutter and when the camera takes the shot) can be noticeably increased.

Consider Your Composition & Framing: Follow the Rule of Thirds - avoid placing your subject squarely in the middle of your frame but a third of the way in; Frame your shots through windows, mirrors, other objects that provide some depth and interest to the photo; Watch your backgrounds so that poles or wires don’t appear to be going through people’s heads; Look for different angles; and Look for color differences, patterns and shapes to add compositional interest to your shot. Try your photo both vertically and horizontally to choose which orientation best portrays your subject.

Take Plenty of Pictures & Learn: The advantage of digital photography (including that of camera phones) is the ability to shoot off many shots quickly, we have unlimited film, instant feedback and all at no cost.

Trends related to how smartphone users are sharing their captured images:

U.S. Cellular’s survey revealed that about 71 percent of smartphone users share and upload the photos they take with their cellphones and nearly two-thirds of smartphone users are using their devices daily to access social media. .

With the variety of features and photo apps now available on mobile devices, that number will likely grow as it gets easier than ever for every cell phone owner to share their photos.

Photography apps to explore:

Camera+ (for Apple) and Camera for Android are apps that are great for photo sharing and editing. Both feature a full photo editor that is very user friendly, along with the ability to connect and share your photos with others.
Phone-wp
Adobe Photoshop Express is an app that helps edit photos just like the desktop program – one-touch adjustment for contrast, exposure, white balance along with blemish and red eye removal and 20 one-touch eye-catching effects to give your photos special “looks.”

Snapseed is an app that helps you tune an image to create depth and vibrancy with color saturation, brightness and contrast and also helps you crop and adjust perspective across the vertical and horizontal axes.

Magnifier & Microscope is an app that allows you to get great close ups of small items or subjects.

All of these are available for free in the Google Play store or the Apple store. With U.S. Cellular’s 4G LTE network, the apps can quickly and easily be downloaded to smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy 7 and 7 Edge, the Apple iPhone 6s and SE, and the LG G5.

Garbage Bag Suitcase By Shenandoah Chefalo Review

Garbage Bag Suitcase

A Memoir
Authored by Shenandoah Chefalo

Garbage Bag Suitcase is the true story of Shenandoah Chefalo's wholly dysfunctional journey through a childhood with neglectful, drug-and alcohol addicted parents. She endured numerous moves in the middle of the night with just minutes to pack, multiple changes in schools, hunger, cruelty, and loneliness.

Finally at the age of 13, Shen had had enough. After being abandoned by her mother for months at her grandmother's retirement community, she asked to be put into foster care. Surely she would fare better at a stable home than living with her mother? It turns out that it was not the storybook ending she had hoped for.

With foster parents more interested in the income received by housing a foster child, Shen was once again neglected emotionally. The money she earned working at the local grocery store was taken by her foster parents to "cover her expenses." When a car accident lands her in the hospital with grave injuries and no one came to visit her during her three-week stay, she realizes she is truly all alone in the world.

Overcoming her many adversities, Shen became part of the 3% of all foster care children who get into college, and the 1% who graduate. She became a successful businesswoman, got married, and had a daughter. Despite her numerous achievements in life though, she still suffers from the long-term effects of neglect, and the coping skills that she adapted in her childhood are not always productive in her
adult life.

Garbage Bag Suitcase is not only the inspiring and hair-raising story of one woman's journey to overcome her desolate childhood, but it also presents grass-root solutions on how to revamp the broken foster care system.

About the author:
Shenandoah Chefalo
Plagued and embarrassed by her name (a humiliation enhanced by a nomadic childhood that made it impossible to build lasting relationships), Shenandoah Chefalo developed a tough skin at an early age. Along the way she learned to deal with disappointment, push through discomfort, overcome adversity, and accurately gauge people, qualities that have helped her to succeed.

After spending nearly 20 years as a Law Office Administrator, Shenandoah became unsettled by the ever-revolving door of the criminal justice system, and set out to find a way to change it. She attended Coach U and became a certified life coach. Working through that program, Shenandoah began to understand her childhood in a way she never had before.

She began researching, and learned that there are nearly 400,000 children in the foster care system each day in the United States. Out of those children, nearly 61% age out of the system without having a place to live; nearly 50% end up incarcerated within two years of aging out; and almost 80% of people on death row are former foster alumni. These (and other statistics) made Shenandoah realize that she had to do something.

She set out on a mission to tell her story and educate the general public about the grim realities of a life that she had always tried to hide. She believes that some of the grassroots solutions she offers in Garbage Bag Suitcase could change the lives of children and the landscape of the country.

Shenandoah Chefalo is a graduate of Michigan State University (holding a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Interdisciplinary Studies in Social Science), a Core Essentials Graduate from Coach U, a Certified Law of Attraction Advanced Practitioner, a member of the National Speakers Association, and volunteers with several organizations locally, nationally and internationally. Locally she is also much sought after for her advice and understanding of Social Media Marketing.

Shenandoah Chefalo is also the author of an e-book entitled Setting Your Vision and Defining Your Goals, and is currently working on another book called Hiking for Stillness.

I recevied a complimentary copy.

Cassandra's review-  A great book for anyone who has been through or is going through the same drama.  I think most of the world has gone through one or more of the situations the author tells about.   More people need to be aware of the foster care system and how bad it really is.   Reading about abuse and torture of a real human being is not my idea of a fun or exciting read.  This book should be used as a tool for awareness and not for ideas.

Gracie is not what I expected either...she doesn't fit the mold of what you think an "angel-in-training" is supposed to be like, and it will be fun to see her continue to learn and change. Gracie is so spontaneous and carefree, and I got attached to Alex and Dawson. I can't wait for the next one!” by Verified Amazon Customer   add to goodreads   Excerpt From Candlelight Kisses She was floating, drifting without a care in the world. It was the feeling of being caught up in a glorious dream where time and space were irrelevant. “Wow! This is incredible!” Gracie sighed contentedly, not wanting to wake up, but her eyes seemed to have a mind of their own as they popped open. She glanced around, expecting to see the familiar surroundings of her bedroom but then realized with a jolt that her favorite overstuffed chair and other comfy furnishings had been replaced with a metal chair, nondescript walls, and some sort of medical device. There was a solid red line going across the screen, and this annoying beeping kept wailing like an opera singer who’d gotten stuck on the same note. Her mind whirled in confusion as she realized that she was hovering in midair, her back pressed against the ceiling. Then she noticed that the room was full of people, gathered around a hospital table, frantically working to revive someone—a woman. She looked down, only mildly curious about whom the person could be. She was too busy enjoying being weightless and the carefree feeling that had overtaken her. All of her problems seemed obsolete, and she felt free and unencumbered, a happy balloon sailing in the air. Something about the scene below drew her attention, and she realized that the people scurrying about were doctors and nurses. Their faces were pinched and drawn. She wondered why they were all so sad. The doctor, a middle-aged man with graying temples shook his head. “We’ve done all we can do.” There was a note of finality in his voice as his hands fell limp to his side. A nurse nodded and began pulling a sheet over the woman’s head. It was only then that Gracie caught a glimpse of the lifeless girl on the table. A soundless scream wrenched from her throat as she recognized the face. It was her!   Youngblood PooleJennifer Youngblood & Sandra Poole Jennifer and Sandra—daughter and mother writing duo—have been writing together for many years and have over a dozen published novels, a collection of short stories, and a children’s book (released under the pen name of Periwinkle Blue). They feel it’s a great privilege to be able to collaborate with each other as it adds a depth and spice to their work that neither of them could get independently. For them, writing is a continual journey of discovery. They have so many ideas for books that it’s hard to focus on one at a time. Both of them have a penchant for chocolate, seafood, and movies. Jennifer has a B.A. in English and Social Sciences from BYU Hawaii, and Sandra has a Masters in Business Administration. Jennifer and Sandra now live in the Rocky Mountains with their families.
